LOCKER ROOM REPORT: Quadir Copeland and Tre Holloman
NC State guards Quadir Copeland and Tre Holloman met with the media following the 83-73 loss to No. 20 Auburn.
For both of you, that's really loud. For both of you, defensively tonight, just seemed like a lot of tough made shots for Auburn. But what did you guys take away from those defensively?
Quadir Copeland: We forced them to 20 turnovers, we had 14 steals and made good shots. He shot, what, 50 or something for the field? I think high 50s. Really not much we can do about that. And we knew they had good shot makers. And their two guard [Kevin Overton], number one, stepped up big time today. And I think we were really solid on defense. They just made great shots. They got players like that. That’s what happened.
Q or Tre, what's the most frustrating thing for the team right now? If you could pick one or two things. One or two things.
Tre Holloman: I guess we just got to guard, we’re just not guarding the head of the snake, you feel me, I got to set that tone for the defense. And I just feel like we can be better as a group and team guard. I feel like sometimes we just leave one of our teammates out there on an island. And then people just got hot. Just a guarding team of guarding. So I guess just team of guarding.
Q, you mentioned that they got hot from three. How difficult is it to win a game when you guys can't match that consistently, especially with Paul and Matt having an off night?
Quadir Copeland: Players got to step up. That's it. Players got to step up. People are made to have off nights. I mean, P2 ain't perfect. Matt ain't perfect. He's still an 18-year-old kid. Dang, this ain't nothing on them. This ain't nothing on nobody on those teams. This is on everybody on our team. Me, Tre, Matt, anybody that's on that team from the 15 foot, this is on us, everybody. It's got nothing to do with it because we missed shots.
We had an off night. We were supposed to pick them up. That's what teammates do for us, and we didn't. A player had an off night, and you see A player picked them up, didn't he? That's what we were supposed to do. So we got to be better with that.
Coach Wade has talked about trying to find that hard edge, trying to find bringing that out of you guys. What do you feel like this team needs to do to be able to find that, especially after losing three out of the last four?
Quadir Copeland: Like I said, we've never had this feeling three out of our last four games. Start to hate this feeling. We keep heading to the locker room with our heads down, and we're like, we don't like this feeling. Let's not lose it. Somebody's out there, that's the easiest fix. Locking in, paying attention to the details, focusing, and starting to get wins. Everything goes together when you win.
