On how he arrived to NC State...
We were in the middle of the season when my agent came and said, I want to talk to you. And he explained every detail and everything. I said, yeah, let's do it. And here I am.
What were you feeling? What were you thinking?
After I heard that, I just called my brother. Because my brother is a big family fan. I called him and he was like, yo. He told me he was repeating it maybe a lot. You're going to college? Yeah. You’re going to college?
I guess, sorry, to be specific, you said that that was in April. So is that when you committed to NC State or is that when you got the green light of, okay, I'm actually going to be able to?
Yeah, it's kind of both.
Does all of that off the field chaos and logistics make playing basketball that much more fun or lighthearted because of everything you had to go through to get here?
Yeah. With all of that, you can't, for me, to get here, you have to go through a lot of hard stuff. And, yeah, so it's much more fun. The process is much more fun.
What did you think of the retreat over the weekend, the SEAL training?
It was good. It was my first time doing it. It was amazing. With team bonding and everything, we needed that. So it was really good. I really enjoyed it.
What was the process in getting into NC State and kind of getting that squared away?
It was stressful. It was a lot of work because I had to go get my Visa in Madrid and everything so I could get here. But later on, with everybody's help here in NC State, coach, everybody, they finally made it happen. So I'm glad.
How long do you think it took to kind of from start to finish, from once you started the process to once you're told, all right, everything's good to go?
How long did it take? It was like, what, three months, something like that.
It was in the works for a while.
Yeah, it was in the works for a while. I had to get everything, my papers and everything.
How much do you think your last few years playing in Spain prepared you for the NCAA?
It prepared me a lot. I was in Spain for a long time. Going through everything there really prepared me for this moment.
You were playing against grown men.
Yeah, we were playing against a lot of good teams like Madrid, Barca. So with that experience, you can't complain.
Coach Wade talked about your defense, being one of the better defenders already. How much do you pride in not letting people score and trying to get blocks or rebounds and things like that?
For me, the defense and everything, I love doing that. Going to a rebound defense. Because for me, I love doing that. To say, hey, he's not going to score on me. I love the challenge.
