Duke Scott: "We Have Weapons Everywhere"

NC State running back Duke Scott met with the media to discuss his play in fall camp, the upcoming season, and much more.

On his recent S&C Award...
It means a lot. I worked, I trust the process, and I had a lot of good teammates that motivated me to just do great. So, just earning that, it's with respect to all the guys who also put a whole bunch of sweat, blood, and tears into it. 

What was your biggest focus this offseason in terms of improving? 
The biggest focus on the offseason was my pass pro. Just being a young guy, there's a lot of stuff in college that's kind of foreign, especially coming from high school. I was able to see a lot of stuff in high school, like blitzes and all that good stuff, but just kind of focusing more on scheme and all that good stuff defensively, like just seeing how guys might send pressure. That was my biggest focus, and off the field it was just speed. I guess like an alternative, it was just speed.

We talked to Hollywood yesterday, and he's kind of really growing into the leader of this room. He was saying, he's telling you to take his job every single day. What does it say about this room that there's that competition, that edge, that guys really push each other even higher? 
Yes sir, it's highly competitive. We work every day. Like Hollywood said, he tells me to take his spot, so that's what I try to do every day. We just work, and it's all love at the end of the day.

We all just motivate each other to get better, and that's what it's all about. 

How hungry are you for this season? Not getting much playing time, playing at all last year. How hungry are you? 
I'm excited. I'm very excited. I'm really ready to go. It's been a long time coming for me.

Speaking of that, you did not play in the bowl game last year, and obviously all of the guys are really hyped about that. What are you hoping to bring to the field and show against ECU? 
Just how dynamic of a player I am. I'm excited to compliment Hollywood and just for both of us to take the field and just ball out. 

Is it more fun getting to kind of do it against a rival to open the season? 
Yes, yes it is. It's very fun. Especially going for the bowl game, I guess I didn't play, but I still have my team out there, and I'm just ready to get back in the bowl. 

What's the biggest adjustment you've had so far in the passing game? Let's pick up where I'm guessing the running part. That's just natural, right? 
Yes, I would say the running game, I guess it gets faster, but at the end of the day, you're still running the ball. The pass pro is just a lot of foreign stuff that you get, especially coming from Coach Gibson. We've seen a lot of unique things, and just seeing every week how different teams have different schemes, it was just really foreign for me at first. 

Do you get the sense that this team is going to run the ball a lot this year?  Most college teams are throwing it all over the place. Do you get the sense that this team might be different and run the ball a bit more? 
I feel like we're going to be very balanced. We have weapons everywhere, and I think we're going to get a great value out of all those guys.
