MLB DRAFT: Shaffner Selected By Reds

NC State right-handed pitcher Andrew Shaffner has been drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 15th round, 444th overall, in the 2025 MLB Draft.

The Elk Creek, Va. became a stalwart in the Wolfpack bullpen during his three seasons in Raleigh. After recording his first save in the opening game of NC State's 2024 NCAA Athens Super Regional, Shaffner carried the momentum from the success of that season into 2025 where he led the team with five saves to go along with a 4-1 record and a 3.13 earned run average. He currently has 70 career strikeouts compared to 21 walks over 69-2/3 innings with one more year of eligibility remaining, should he choose to return.
