So being drafted in this spot, is he likely to come to State or go pro?

Dang home town boy and was hoping he would make it here! Not too many K-town Wonders come to State. At least athletically. Torren Wright came and transferred and before that maybe Mark Smith was the last one and that was in the 80's.

My niece teaches at Kannapolis Brown.

Hoping someway that he would play for us. But the interview he gave last week wasn't very promising.

Is the slot value the minimum a team can offer or is it just a guideline based on signing history at that draft slot?

Each selection in the first 10 rounds comes with an assigned value, with the total for a club's picks equaling what it can spend in those rounds without incurring a penalty. If a player taken in the top 10 rounds doesn't sign, his choice's value gets subtracted from his team's pool. Clubs near the top of the Draft often spend less than the assigned value for those choices and use the savings to offer more money to later selections.

Angels drafted second and took a player most thought would not go in the top 10, which basically means they gave him a lot less than the slot value for the number two pick.

This is what I like about the MLB draft, teams can get really creative on deals they make and how they use their money. They also can "Float" players who they have already cut a deal with, which I guarantee was the case with CJ.
