WNBA DRAFT: Saniya Rivers Selected By The Connecticut Sun
Former NC State wing Saniya Rivers was selected Monday evening by the Connecticut Sun with the No. 8 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Rivers transferred to NC State before the 2022-23 season after spending her first year of college at South Carolina, where she was a member of the 2022 national champion team.
While at NC State, the 6-1 wing from Wilmington, NC, earned All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Defensive Team honors in each of her final two seasons. The Wolfpack reached the Final Four with Rivers in 2023-24 and followed it up with an ACC regular season title this past campaign.
As a junior, Rivers was an Honorable Mention All-American as a point guard. In 2024-25, as a senior, she repeated the feat despite moving to the wing to allow Zoe Brooks to start at the point position.
