Redshirt senior quarterback Ryan Finley talks about his decision to return for his senior year, the quarterback legacy at NC State, and much more.

On being back with the team when many didn’t expect him to be back:
Super exciting to get out there. We have a brand new team and just really exciting to see some of the young guys make plays and kind of see what they can do and then older guys who have now stepped up into leadership roles and how they are helping guys grow underneath them.

On having more of a leadership role this year:
It’s exciting for me. I’m blessed to be in this leadership role. I’m going to take advantage of every single day and help this team play to their potential and be as good as we can be.

On losing a lot from the backfield and how the offense will adjust:
We’re super excited about our depth at wide receiver. We have so many playmakers at that position and we’re really excited about some of the running backs coming up in the ranks. We’re still going to be balanced like always but we can still get the big guys some shots down the field.

On his decision to come back as opposed to head to the draft:
They were tough. That was a decision about my future but at the end of the day I wanted my opportunity to play college football. I had a close person tell me that he would do anything to play one more college football game and that kinda hit me. And I was excited to get back to work and get back in Carter-Finley and represent this university.

On his goal to be the best quarterback in college football:
Yeah absolutely I would expect nothing less than to be the best quarterback in college football.

On how Bradley Chubb’s decision and senior year affected his decision:
That was definitely cool to watch that whole process unfold in front of all our eyes. Obviously he made a great decision in coming back and Chubb represents himself with class the whole entire year and kinda watching him and how he acted as a professional in his last year. I definitely learned a lot from Bradley.

On his legacy at NC State and being mentioned with Rivers, Wilson and Glennon when he’s finished:
Yeah I think that is important. The tradition here at quarterback is so strong I’m honored to be in the mix with those guys and seeing Mike Glennon come back, you know that’s special to me with what this represents at the quarterback position.
