WATCH: Richardson Says O-Line Has One Goal

NC State redshirt junior offensive tackle Will Richardson says line coach Dwayne Ledford has had a major impact on his development.

Thoughts on his mindset...

[Coach Ledford] said, “don’t worry about what people are saying on the outside. Because they’re going to talk on the outside. Just worry about what’s going on in our room.” And that’s why we’re called the Band of Brothers. We stick together.

We’re a unit of boys that come together from different places.  And it’s all for the same goal: to make each other better and become champions.

How much of a difference has coach [Ledford] made?

He’s made a huge difference.  Just the mental aspect of it. Just talking to us, letting us know, like, “Hey, you’ve got to have confidence with this.  Hey, you’ve got to have your hands here. You’ve got to have your feet here.  You’ve got to have your eyes here.” It’s so important with the offensive line. 

Any mistaken step can get you beat any play, any bad step can get you beat.  And he makes sure he tells us that. 

One of our primary focuses is on our first step in our run scheme plays, taking that first step is huge for the rest of your block.

Yes sir, we’ve all gotten comfortable with him, we all understand how he is.  What his expectations are for each one of us…

He’s played in the NFL.

Yes sir, and that’s what I was going to get to.  He’s played in the NFL, it just makes me that more confident in what he’s telling me to do.  Like, “Hey, he’s telling me to do this. He’s seen it happen. He’s done it, let me do it.

I don’t have any true plan going into the season.  I’m going to go out there and play the best that I can and see how everything goes after the season.
