On the relief efforts…
My mom and I decided that we just wanted to find a way to help people of the western part of North Carolina, and we kind of got a donation drive going where people could just bring supplies like water, batteries, and those kinds of things and just drop them off. She got in contact with a rescue mission, and they have the means of getting it up there. They’re going to deliver the supplies for us.
On the process of getting it started…
It was real quick. We were just talking about it Sunday night. We talk a lot about doing charity and stuff like that, and a lot of times we put it off, but we decided that this was one thing that we really wanted to take action on because people were struggling so badly. She texted Coach [Dave] Doeren that next day, and he was on board immediately. After she texted him, he texted me and got things rolling, so it was real quick.
On the response…
We actually did fill up one truck. We've got two out there right now. We're trying to fill up the second one. It was just crazy. It was a beautiful thing, watching that many people bring stuff out, and being supportive of Asheville, Boone, and all those places. Like I said, it's a good thing. It's good seeing people do that.
On talking with teammates from the affected areas…
I talked to [Isaiah Shirley] about it. Him and his brother being from Boone, then Aydan White being from Asheville, and just having a lot of people on our team from that area, it’s very prevalent in the Murph. Knowing what they're going through, I wanted to find a way to help.
On assisting his family with their moving business…
I did. I don't do it anymore just because I don't want to run the risk of getting hurt straining myself too much, but growing up, I did.
