True Freshman CJ Bailey Will Make First Career Start At Clemson
NC State head coach Dave Doeren announced today that true freshman quarterback CJ Bailey will make his first career start on the road at Clemson as Grayson McCall is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury.
“CJ will start the game,” Doeren informed the media at his weekly press conference. “It's his team. We'll take it one day at a time with Grayson and when he's ready to play he'll be back.”
Bailey completed 13-of-20 passes for 156 yards with an interception in the win over Louisiana Tech. He was really good in the second half, leading the Wolfpack on three scoring drives to help overcome a 17-6 halftime deficit.
McCall was injured midway through the second quarter and was quickly ruled out. Doeren said the Pack received “good news” on McCall, adding he was day-to-day in his recovery.
Doeren added redshirt freshman Lex Thomas is now the backup quarterback.
