The Latest On NC State Safety Devan Boykin And Nickel Ja'Had Carter

NC State head coach Dave Doeren was asked today about the status of senior safety Devan Boykin, who has been sidelined with a knee injury he suffered in bowl practices last December.

“Devan is out through the month,” Doeren said.  “His timeline is to be back sometime in October. I can’t really give you a date on that because every month we kind of re-assess where a guy is at as they get to this stage in ACL recovery.”

Boykin finished fourth on the team in tackles last season with 54 and recorded an interception in each of the Wolfpack’s wins over Clemson, Miami, and UNC.

NC State will have back in the lineup transfer nickel Ja’Had Carter, who sat out the opener against Western Carolina.

“Ja’Had will play,” Doeren added.  “He’s ready to go.  He practiced last night, and like I said after the game, he could have played Saturday, but we just felt like it was best to get him one more week to back to 100%.”

A transfer from Ohio State, Carter is the Wolfpack’s starting nickel and expected to be a huge piece to the Wolfpack’s defense.
