SIGNEE VIDEO: Taiyon Palmer
NAME: Taiyon Palmer
POSITION: Cornerback
RANK: ****
VITALS: 5'11/175/4.40
NOTES: Archer (GA) cornerback Taiyon Palmer committed to Duke early in the process, but prior to the early signing period he chose to decommit from the Blue Devils. Once Palmer opened up his recruitment, multiple programs came calling.
NC State was one of the first schools to jump in the mix, and national powers like Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee, Nebraska, and Notre Dame followed with offers.
Palmer cut his list to NC State, Nebraska, and Tennessee before signing with the Wolfpack on Signing Day.
"He was originally committed to another university and opened up his recruitment, and we were fortunate to be there when that happened and have a chance to recruit him," Dave Doeren stated. "He's a great young man, incredible student, wonderful family and, again, a big need for us -- losing two starters at corner."
Palmer was a major contributor for Archer, who finished the season 15-1. He earned all-state honors and all-region honors while starring at cornerback and kick returner.
At 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, Palmer has big-time tools. He's extremely fast, has the length college coaches covet at cornerback, and outstanding ball skills. He's also very refined as a prospect, Palmer has been playing cornerback ever since he started playing football.
"[He] gives us a freshman that has a chance to really compete and play early," Doeren said of Palmer. "With his skillset and how long he has played DB -- since he was almost five years old... he's a guy that can come in, hopefully, and be physically ready because mentally he is very mature."
NC State must replace two starting cornerbacks, and Taiyon Palmer certainly has a chance to earn playing time as a true freshman, at cornerback or in the return game.
Here is your chance to catch him in action!
