I just don't think you build a roster in baseball worried about having too many guys. Year after year, guys leave, guys get hurt, guys don't pan out. If you go back to these threads last off-season, there are multiple dudes that were thought to be contributors who hardly saw the field. I don't think the staff wants to have a season where you only have one pinch hitter and have a pitcher as your only defensive substitute. Sure, ideally you don't want to have to need those guys, but history shows you will. I also don't think they are expecting all these guys that they have brought in to be starters. I think that's why they've targeted more multi year guys so there's some room for development. Someone will end up unhappy, that's a guarantee anyway. Some guys will move on after the fall, and some guys will emerge and be much better than expected. Happens every year.
Just a guy on the sunshine squad.
The Gatekeeper.
Homer Dumbarse.
