MLB DRAFT TRACKER: Wolfpack Players And Signees

July 16, 2024
10,236

The 2024 MLB Draft is ongoing and you can follow where all of NC State's players/signees are selected through the Inside Pack Sports Draft Tracker.

NC State is expected to have multiple players drafted in the three-day draft, which began on Sunday and will be televised on ESPN and the MLB network.

The first Wolfpack player selected was star catcher Jacob Cozart, who was picked No. 48 overall by Cleveland.  As expected, look for Cozart to ink professionally and not play for NC State given his lofty draft projection.

The first 10 rounds will be completed on Monday, and the draft concludes with rounds 11-20 on Tuesday, starting at 2pm ET.

As each NC State player is drafted we will update the the tracker below so you can follow along throughout the weekend!

POSITION PLAYER ROUND PICK TEAM
Catcher Jacob Cozart No. 2 No. 48 Cleveland Guardians
Outfielder Eli Serrano No. 4 No. 111 New York Mets
Infielder Devin Fitz-Gerald No. 5  No. 165 Texas Rangers
Infielder Brandon Butterworth No. 12 No. 360 San Diego Padres
Pitcher Logan Whitaker No. 19 No. 578 Minnesota Twins

The Mets? I'm sorry young man, it will be ok.

Infamous Wolfpack Limited star Tommy Tanks went 40th to the Athletics.

Wake Forest had three players drafted in the top 10! That is three more than the total number of NCAA tourney wins they had this year.

Devin Fitz-Gerald likely gone after being taken at the end of the 5th round.

Probably, but we will see what his number is. If his number going into the draft and if it was $1mil and he get offered $500 he may not go. Probably was all figured out before they picked him but no way to know for sure.

They aren't drafting him there unless they had a deal in place. Could it fall apart, sure.

Since 2021 when covid changed the draft only 7 guys haven't signed that were drafted in the top 10 rounds. Of those 7 only 1 was a HS kid and he went to a JUCO and was not good. Went to another JUCO and was marginally better. Ended up at FIU where he finally showed some of the potential that made him a 4th round pick out of HS. He left a good chunk of change on the table.

Kumar Rocker was another that got low balled after his physicals scared the Mets a bit they wouldn't give him what he originally wanted.

If his number was a mil then he's getting a mil for them to draft him.

I hope he bucks the trend and ends up in Raleigh for 3 years.

Happy for Eli.

Are Makarewicz and Pennington expected to get drafted?

Exactly. Longer way of how I posted it... "Probably was all figured out before they picked him but no way to know for sure."

The kids don't always know if they are getting picked by etc. Honeycutt from UNC didn't know Baltimore was drafting him. They will have to negotiate that. Different situation obvious with a college kid but teams do weird stuff sometimes. As you illustrated that 7 HS kids drafted haven't come to terms and went to college

You read it wrong. Only one HS kid didn't end up signing that got picked in the first 10 rounds. The other 6 were college kids. The one HS kid signed with a JUCO and probably didn't have grades for anywhere else.

Vance may not have known for sure but I'll bet you dollars to donuts his agent knew who was interested and if they were interested in his number for dang sure.

My mistake on the HS/college part, skimmed to much. As for the Honeycutt situation, feel free to think whatever you want. Agent obviously knows who is interested but your "number" when you are a prospect like him doesn't matter. Only # that matters is what someone will pay you. His # can be $3miion but if he makes that known it's still a negotiation. And if nobody will pay it then they aren't drafting that and he's not certainly not going back to college. So having your number is all fine and well but takes two to tango. It's not like you are a HS recruit (leads credence to your point of HS kids always signing. But whatever

Baseball draft is just like the other drafts. The teams value potential upside over what they may consider to be maxed out performance. When you've played college baseball for five years, they may figure you are as good as you're going to be. It's the same thing as DJ Horne not getting drafted and Jared McCain almost being a lottery pick, despite Horne's proven production. A Mak was a really good college baseball player and had an amazing year for us this year, but he has no leverage in the draft and it's probably better for him to be an undrafted free agent than go in the later rounds. Personally, I think it's ass backwards, because I'd rather give a known floor guy like AMak a couple mil than a 17-18 year old high school kid that may or may not be good in five years, but it's how these things work.
Just a guy on the sunshine squad.
The Gatekeeper.
Homer Dumbarse.

If you actually believe that Vance or his agent had no idea the Orioles were picking him then I don't know what to tell you. If his agent was worth a damn the basic numbers of the deal were already hammered out before the pick was announced. The O's aren't gonna risk VH not signing. Why do you think Bazzana went first and not Condon…it ain't bc the Guardians didn't like Condon, they most likely didn't like his ask and moved on.

I know someone with contacts in the Orioles front office. VH was not going to fall past them. So if his agent did not know, then he's way out of the loop b/c I knew, and I did not even care or ask anyone.
