I agree with Ethan. Need to get more arms. I would put this first, I would put short stop second and first base third.

Why do we need a SS? Butters is coming back and SS is one of those spots guys don't come in to sit the bench for a year.

Corner infield and starting pitching. That's got to be the portal focus.

If Butters gets drafted he's gone. There's a real possibly he could get picked up in rounds 17-20, much like Kalae Harrison last year.

I wish Butters was back, but I really do not expect it. With the season he had at State, I really expect him to get drafted and if he does, I will be stunned if he returns to State.

Butters is getting drafted
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

We've been projecting Buttersworth to get drafted.

And Eli Serrano is probably gone and so is Fritton

Good listen/conversation. Think everyone can agree we will need 2-3 more dudes on offense (atleast, depending on the draft), with the priority being some pop. Speed would also be great.

A couple things to note- we have 2 JUCO kids committed that aren't being mentioned. One is an OF (Fraasman), and over 2 years at JUCO he hit .348, 20 HRs, 30 doubles, 1.000 + OPS and 23 stolen bases. Not saying he is a plug and play guy, but 2 good years of JUCO under his belt. The other is a LHP Pillsbury. Over 2 years he has thrown 47 innings (all out of relief) and has given up only 33 hits struck out 69 (13 Ks/9), but has walked 33 kids. Career WHIP of 1.38 and ERA of 5.10. Has the stuff, it seems, can he harness it?

The arms is the most interesting to me. We do need to replace innings, but we COULD have 7-8 guys back the staff likes. This isn't including any incoming arms, which we have a couple that are very intriguing. Anderson Nance broke his counties strike out record that lasted 30+ years and the dude was a 1st rounder.

Mahron/Consiglio/Smith/Dudan/Peisell are likely the most trust worthy right now. Dudan had a quote yesterday he would like to become a starter, would love to see that.

After that, Jaxon Lucas and Shaffner are x-factors. Does Lucas improve enough to give innings? Is Shaffner healthy and a full time arm?

And 2 guys that had positive reviews in the fall were Bechtel and Wimbish. Both are pitching this summer (Bechtel playing both ways), with Wimbish especially being intriguing. He was 93-95 in the fall with a big spin rate breaking ball. Sounds similar to Derrick Smith the year before. Are either of those 2 able to become contributors? I think portal activity will show what the staff things of those guys.

Those two are X factors

This team needs so much talent because we are weak offensively with the most returning position players.

Do we have a returning player who hit .300 or above for the year?

Yes, we have 2. But you should know that since you are such a good baseball fan with great takes.

A big bat at first is something we've tended to have, but when we've been at our best, that guy was also a great defensive first baseman. I know first base is a spot where the wisdom is you can hide a guy that isn't great defensively, but man, when you've got a great defensive first baseman, it makes everyone else in the infield better.

At SS, I wonder if they give Luke a shot there. He profiles similarly to Butters defensively, and I think his bat will take a jump next year.

As for pitching, someone will emerge from the freshman class, they always do. I don't think anyone penciled Marohn or Consiglio in as major contributors prior to the start of the season. I expect we'll still add at least 2-3 more transfer pitchers regardless, you have to even if we were returning a bunch of guys because it's always the biggest question mark year over year. More than half the roster is pitchers, and you hope to get 6-7 of those guys that can be contributors.

The one thing I'm sure of is that the portal will surprise me, it always does.

I finally got around to listening...

Ethan and I have been in agreement on Hart for years. He could put the seven dwarfs in the lineup and they would mash. haha

Hart has so many connects out there in the baseball world he's gonna be able to find a stud that left the state of FL went to a small school and grew or was just overlooked b/c there's so much talent in the state of FL.

Or we'll find some kid from Wyominnetana or East Dakota that's at a JUCO that can play. haha

Brayden Fraasman played against some really good JUCO teams at Lincoln Trail and at 6'0 200 seems to be ready to play immediately. He can run too.

I think once the draft ends, and guys aren't selected they'll be looking to find a home (assuming they're already in the portal).

I can tell most of you know very little about the baseball team. We have one player with the possibility of coming back that had a .314 average… Hogue

So keep the LOL to yourself and realize we need lots of better position players.

I'm beginning to think this is a James Henderson burner account for him to blow off some steam.

No actual human can be this fkn stupid.

If only there was a player transferring in who hit .300 last year, hmmm. Also, Alex Sosa hit .230 while going 0-37 at one point. A paltry 8 hits during that time span would've put him over .300 for the year. Another fun fact, there were only four guys on the team last year that hit above .300 (3 that played the whole season) and that team made it to Omaha. It's almost as though there are other metrics that matter.

Dude, you shouldn't be talking about yourself so much. Most of us here are invested in the program as a whole either through NIL, having coached or played for State. We know a lot about the team and the coaching staff. Go back to shuffle board.

The truth is probably somewhere between you 2. We aren't in dire straits. We have some pieces coming back but we do have a decent number or holes to fill. We have plenty of momentum that we should be able to fill those holes with quality players.

Well we just got our 3rd baseman. This roster will have all the holes that need to be filled, filled. It's a new day and age in college sports and baseball is no different. In MBB and BB most years is going to be a major roster overhaul. The faster 65 accepts that the better off he will be.
