Raleigh (NC) Sanderson standout Alim McNeill‍ will play baseball and football at NC State.

McNeill, one of the best football players in the state, signed a letter of intent to play football with NC State in December.  He met with Elliott Avent on Saturday and firmed up his plans to also play baseball for the Wolfpack.

"Baseball was my first love," McNeill told Inside Pack Sports.  "I've been playing high-level baseball since the age of six.  It was my first sport, and I've worked hard throughout the years to be in this position.

Alim McNeill met with NC State baseball coach Elliott Avent on Saturday.

"I want to continue to play because it's such a beautiful game and to be able to play it in college is just amazing."

McNeill raved about his time with the long-time NC State head coach.

"It was great talking to coach Avent and meeting with the rest of his staff," McNeill said.  "He's obviously a well-known baseball coach on the next level."

An outfielder on the diamond, McNeill hit .333 as a junior in 2018 and had a .447 on-base percentage.

A US Army All-American, McNeill will play defensive end for the Wolfpack.  This season he totaled 60 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, and five sacks.  He also added another 10 rushing touchdowns as Sanderson's short-yardage back.

He signed with NC State over offers from Clemson, Alabama, Virginia Tech, Michigan, North Carolina, Penn State, and Florida State among others.  The 6-foot-2, 285-pounder is expected to enroll this summer and compete for playing time as a true freshman.
