NC State safety Bishop Fitzgerald will continue to see his role expand after the Wolfpack lost starter Jakeen Harris for the season.  Fitzgerald recently met with the media to discuss his play.

“It’s a more complex defense for sure and the game is faster.”

“Here in the ACC, Power 5 football, it’s a game of speed.”

“I arrived in Summer I, but I didn’t have my first practice with them until fall practice.”

“I feel like I picked it up pretty fast.   Coach DeFo and coach Gibby got with me a lot and helped to get me prepared. I was ready to go.”

“I feel like we’re very talented and have a lot of depth at safety and in the DB room. I think what limited us against Notre Dame was our eyes... a lot of play-action, missed tackles.  Other than that we know how to bounce back. We’ll show these boys what’s up.”

“It’s tough.  Sometimes, first game I over thought it a little bit... you just have to live with it, take it as a lesson, and move on.”

“Coach Doeren said Notre Dame could be one of the biggest lessons, that loss humbling us.  VMI, it’s kind of a revenge game. You have to let it out on VMI, what happened to Notre Dame, and hopefully that propels us for the rest of the season.”

“I was at strong safety previously behind Devan Boykin and now I’m playing both safety positions.  I just have to learn. Jakeen is a great guy. He’s been in the room helping us out.  He’s kind of been a coach out there now, so I feel like someone is going to have to step up.”
