Devon Betty: "I Have Some Big Shoes to Fill"
NC State linebacker Devon Betty met with the media as the Wolfpack progresses through fall camp in the lead-up to the 2023 season.

“It’s very important. I have some big shoes to fill. Isaiah Moore has been an incredible linebacker for the last five years. Filling his shoes is my biggest goal right now. I don’t just want to be him. I want to be better. That’s all respect for him, obviously, but he led the way for me, and I just want to continue what he started.”
“It’s really fun playing with Jaylon Scott and Payton Wilson everyday. It’s a competition between us three everyday in who can get to the ball first, who can get the most picks, who can get a strip fumble… It’s healthy competition. I really like it. I’m really glad we got to this point, and I’m glad we all stuck through it.”
“Honestly, I could just tell based on how Payton plays; I thought he didn’t like me at first. It’s just him. This is how he is. He’s a good dude. Being like a younger brother to those two and playing on the same field with them is really great. With Jaylon Scott, he’s a funny dude. He keeps me going everyday and keeps pushing me everyday. If I put my head down, he lifts it right back up. It’s great to see from him.”
“[Tony Gibson] wants all of us to get to the ball. After every snap, get to the ball. I don’t care where the ball is. It could be all the way in the end zone; get to the ball. It could be all the way to the sideline; get to the ball. During the day, he makes us compete to get to the ball first. We do that everyday to get that chemistry going.”
“When I first got here, there’s a reason I started playing. I knew the playbook like I’d been here for years. That’s one of my strengths. I’m really smart. I learned the playbook quickly. I learned to read the offense quickly. Having that strength allowed me to be here today. Now I’m here starting for our defense, and I’m looking forward to go out there and showing everybody why I can be the starting linebacker."
