COMMIT ALERT: 2025 Standout Gus Ritchey Has Flipped To NC State

Pittsboro (NC) Northwood 2025 jumbo athlete Gus Ritchey‍ has flipped his commitment from North Carolina to NC State just over a week after picking the Tar Heels.

Ritchey talked with Inside Pack Sports about his decision.

“It was the coaching staff, coach Doeren, coach Anae, Quint Cottingham, coach Goebbel, everybody on that staff. And then, the culture, not only that but I know for the tight end group especially- I’m their guy. They let me know I’m their guy. They let me know they want me everyday. They always let me know they wanted me badly. Even coaches from the defensive side were checking in. Honestly, that showed right then and there how badly they wanted me.”

Ritchey admitted that his initial decision to commit to UNC didn’t feel right. Almost immediately. Ritchey’s heart was at NC State and he knew the decision to flip to the Wolfpack was the right one.

“Every day that went by I knew this was the right decision. I knew this was the place. I needed to be home. And you can’t get any better than State. You’re going to be successful both on and off the field if you go to State.”

Ritchey is NC State’s second commitment in the 2025 class, joining four-star quarterback Will Wilson‍.

He picked the Wolfpack over offers from North Carolina, Michigan, Virginia Tech, and Notre Dame, among others.
