Kay Yow To Be Honored With Coaches Circle Bench at Naismith Hall of Fame
Legendary NC State head coach Kay Yow will be honored at the Naismith Hall of Fame with her own commemorative bench as part of the Naismith Coaches Circle exhibit.
The enshrinement comes after Peaches Blank and Becky Bumgardner initiated the campaign to honor the longtime Wolfpack head coach. The dedication for Yow’s bench will take place Saturday, August 12 in Springfield, Mass.
Yow joins former NC State men’s basketball coach Jim Valvano as one of 42 other coaches who’ve already been honored with a bench within the exhibit. Benches honoring former North Carolina women’s basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell, former Villanova men’s basketball coach Rollie Massimino, and former Rutgers men’s basketball coach Tom Young will also be added alongside Yow’s at this year’s ceremony.
Before passing away in 2009, Yow amassed a 695-341 overall record as the leader of the Pack, including a trip to the 1998 NCAA Final Four, five ACC regular season championships, and four ACC Tournament titles. She also won two gold medals for coaching Team USA in the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics. Yow was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000 before joining the 2002 class in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
