Talented Incoming Catcher Alex Sosa Excited About NC State Opportunity

NC State incoming freshman catcher Alex Sosa is back at home watching the draft with his family, and he could potentially have a decision to make. He recently discussed his recruitment and much more with Inside Pack Sports.

You have been on campus for a few weeks now. What’s that been like?
It’s awesome. Raleigh, you hear about it, but being there, it’s super nice. Even the schedule has been amazing. We’re tutoring and then classes and then workouts... I love how it’s set up for me to handle my academics and athletics.

What led to you picking NC State?
I was talking to all the in-state schools like Miami, Florida, and FSU, and I was always told I was too small. I also talked to other schools like Ole Miss, Wake Forest, Duke... I’ve always had a lot of loyalty to NC State. Some other schools told me I could make money and go to them, but I fell in love with NC State and the coaching staff. They’ve been everything I wanted. When I was 5’6” they treated me like a top prospect.

What has been NC State’s recruiting pitch?
It’s pretty much Cozart and I at catcher, so I know I’ll catch some games and play as a freshman. I’m confident my bat can be in the lineup too. Cozart is a great player and he probably can be even better with another day or two off behind the plate... maybe his numbers can shoot up, too. Regardless, I want to try and be in the lineup. I can play infield, catch, or DH.

What have you been hearing from scouts?
As of lately, I’ve been viewed as a catcher who can impact the game on both sides. A lot of scouts also like the lefty hitting catcher profile. I take a lot of pride in my defense. As I’ve grown and got stronger, my offense has shot up. I’ve caught up to others physically... I’m now 6’1” and 200 pounds.

The draft is here, and you could potentially have a decision to make.
NC State is a place where I really want to go. They’ve always treated me great; I’ve always remembered that. I was never a big draft guy coming into high school and was always set on going to NC State, so for me I’m happy with my college choice.

It would be a tough decision, but I know that if teams won’t hit my number I’m happy to go to NC State. Everything has been so fun. If the opportunity is right, we’d talk about it and I’m not really favoring it either way. I have a set number and the teams will decide it. I do want to go to NC State; that will factor.

NC State has had a lot of success with catchers.
Their track record makes my decision that much harder. Obviously I know going there I’ll get that much better. I think I can go even higher in the draft coming out of NC State. Deep down, I want to go to NC State.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Could have sworn I saw something earlier today about him turning down the draft and attending NC State, like it was a done deal?
If you never allow for a little fun and relaxation you will become mentally unstable without knowing it.
