Evan Amos is a right-handed pitcher/third baseman that is among many who have committed to NC State early in their high school career.

The class of 2025 star, native of Summerlin, S.C., and a member of Canes National delighted the NC State coaching staff and the Wolfpack fan base with his commitment to join the Pack.

Inside Pack Sports recently spoke with Amos and discussed a variety of topics, including his excitement at eventually being an NC State student.

IPS: Tell the NC State fans a little about your family and their background.

Evan Amos: My parents growing up, they played sports their whole lives. My dad, he's from Chicago, Illinois, and my mom is from Ohio.

Mom grew up playing basketball. That was her main sport. She had a couple of D-1 offers. She had an offer from Ohio State that was her biggest thing.

My dad lived in a really small town, so he didn't have much recognition or anything like that, so he didn't go anywhere with it, but when both their sports careers came to an end, they both joined the military and that's where they met.

They were stationed down in Florida, down in Pensacola, and then that's where I was born on the Air Force base there. I think we were like four or five, I moved down to Summerville and I lived here for like six years, and then I moved up to Chicago where my dad was from for a little bit. I think I lived there for like two and a half years. Then I moved back down (to Summerville, South Carolina) and I've been here for the past four years.

IPS: When did baseball become a thing in your life?

Amos: Growing up my dad pretty much put a bat in my hands before I could even talk really. I was introduced to the game at a young age growing up. My dad, growing up, it was always his favorite sport, and he kind of just put it upon me. Then I kind of found the love for it, probably around eight or nine.

I was 13, then I realized like, okay, I'm kind of good at this. I could probably go somewhere with this, and I've been just focused on it ever since. It's what I love.

IPS: Did getting the NC State offer and committing early on make things easier for you?

Amos: It was definitely a big relief. I had my top schools that I wanted, Having them offer me really early and then being able to make trips to those schools, see what they were about, choose, and then get it out of the way... I always knew NC State was the place I wanted to be, and it was always my dream school. Once they offered, I was like, I have got to take that. That's where I want to be.

IPS: How did NC State become your dream school?

Amos: In the summer of 2019 we were playing a summer tournament and NC State was a host field for it, so I got to go there. I played there and before the game, my dad and I were walking around campus touring it, and it was beautiful -- probably the prettiest campus I've ever been on, honestly.

I think I'm going to go for mechanical engineering. I'm not completely sure, just because I'm so young, but probably more than likely something with math.

IPS: What motivates you when you get to arrive at NC State?

Amos: Obviously the 2021 season getting cut by Covid, that kind of already just puts a target on your back that kind of puts a chip on your shoulder to just like, we got to get after it. We have got stuff to prove.

Whenever my class gets there, all of the renovations will be completely done, all the facilities, the field, all of it will be completely done. I think the year or maybe the year before I get there, it'll be completely done. It just motivates me, honestly, to get there and start working.

IPS: Tell us about the interactions you have had with NC State’s coaching staff.

Amos: Coach Clint (Chrysler), from the first phone call, I kind of knew. He just treated me like family and is just a great guy, with a great family, and great background. Then, there is the coaching experience. They have been coaching the game for such a long time and are so successful. What's there not to love about it, honestly?

Coach Clint, he's honestly a lot like my dad -- kind of like a goofy guy, but when it comes to it, he means business and that's what I love about him.

(Elliott Avent and Chris Hart) are great guys. Everything about them. They know what they're talking about. They know their stuff. They love the game of baseball. They play it the right way. They coach the right way and they're just great people.

IPS: What do you want to improve on before you arrive at NC State?

Amos: I definitely want to get stronger. I definitely want to get a lot more mobile, and really get all my mechanical side of the game out of the way, so when I can get there, we can start working and kind of start forming as a team. I don't have to focus all myself as much. I kind of focus on going to Omaha and bringing a title home.

IPS: It seems the kids in your class are quite close already.

Amos: I mean, we have got a main group chat on Snapchat. That's what we kind of all talk through, pretty much every single day. Honestly, it is just building relationships, and half the time we won't even be talking about baseball stuff. It's just like a friendship. It's a family that's come together and it's gonna be really fun.

From the moment a new guy commits, everyone takes him under his wing and just treats him like family from the start. I think that's what really sets us apart and is really what's going to be the difference.

IPS: What do you think makes NC State’s coaching staff successful?

Amos: They choose the right guys. I don't remember what we were ranked, but our recruiting class was like, I'm pretty sure it was top 10. We had a lot of, this year alone, we have a lot of great freshmen coming in. One of them that sticks out is Eli Serrano, one of the top players in the class who could have got drafted. This is going to be a statement season, I think. We have got a lot of talent.

I think it's kind of getting to the point. We're just on that buildup, buildup, buildup, and I think here in the next year we're gonna pop.

IPS: Do you plan to head to Raleigh for games this season?

Amos: I committed back in July, so I wasn't committed yet last season, but this season I'll be up there all the time for scrimmage games -- anytime I can really.

IPS: What would you say if you could speak directly to the NC State fan base?

Amos: The first thing I would say is, thank you. Soon -- I think maybe 10 minutes after I posted my commitment -- I had like a hundred comments, just all State fans coming out of nowhere, congratulating me, just saying all these amazing things. The main thing I would just have to say to them is, thank you. In 2025 it is going to be a great class. We're gonna bring a lot to the table and take us to Omaha.

It kind of felt fake at first because I was like, ‘Dude, what is this? Where is this coming from? This is crazy.’ It was the greatest decision in my life. I still think about that moment every single day and I just love it.

IPS: What will it be like for you when you put on the NC State uniform and take the field at Doak for the first time?

Amos: It's gonna be a dream come true. Honestly, it's going to be crazy. Would I be shaking? Definitely.
