How valuable was that week to kind of get more settled and just kind of feel like you're the guy now?
Very valuable. Just being more comfortable with this offense. Taking control and just making sure we're all on the same page. Helps getting the reps with the guys that you're going to be out there with.
Is it the same offense or have you guys put in new wrinkles to kind of fit your skill set a little bit more?
It's the same offense, but we're going to enhance our strengths.
How much more do you feel like you've been able to grow personally as a quarterback over this last week and a half now? At this point?
I think tremendously just because the responsibilities I'd have to do. It's not really that big of a difference just because of the guys I already got around me. I already have great leaders on this team. I just got to step in and do my part.
How much support are you getting from Devin right now?
I'm getting a tremendous amount of support. He's there with me every day, comes into the film room, helping us, making sure we're ready to go and know what we're talking about and just make sure we're prepared for the game.
You decided to come here for the big, excuse me, big time atmosphere. Here it is. Yeah, it's here. I mean, how do you like it, you handling it?
I think I'm handling it just fine. It's just, it's exactly what I expected. Just making sure the moment's not too big, just make sure I'm going out there doing my job.
You guys have kicked a lot of field goals since you were the starter. You haven't gotten in the end zone. Is there one particular thing that's kind of holding you guys back in the red zone, or what can you do to turn those threes into sevens?
We've had our opportunities each game, it's just executing. Either maybe a throw was late or we missed read or we didn't get a block. It's just executing each play.
And then from a timing standpoint, how much did you guys work on that this weekend, and how much did this week, and how much did the open date help you know guys build that timing better?
It's just getting more reps, so it's definitely helped get timing better, but really kind of a quick turnaround. We had a vibe playing Thursday, so it's like we still have the same amount of time to prepare for another Saturday game, but I mean just another week of getting reps. So I think we'll definitely be fine.
Has it all been kind of overwhelming because it came at you pretty fast?
Oh, it came at me pretty fast, but like the guys around me, my coaches, they've make sure it's not too much that I'm ready to go and making sure with the plays and stuff that we understand that what we're doing.
You played a lot at Charleston Southern. How much did that help you prepare for?
Just experience? Just being able to know what to take from a defense and what to expect. We played a lot of bigger teams, so it was always just going out there doing my job, not expecting to do too much.
Virginia Tech got pretty decent defensive numbers. What do you see with those guys in their approach?
I mean, they got a good defense, no doubt about it, but we're a good offense and we are just ready to show people what we're made of.
How much have you and MJ have been working together to make sure that both of you are ready given any situation?
We've been working together since the summer. Yeah, so we've been making sure we're ready to go. Every time I'm learning something new, he's learning something new, we're making sure we're on the same page. He's really a smart guy, so he is picking up the offense really quick and we're just making sure we're both ready to go.
Jack, what were your expectations when you signed or when you came here; did you expect to play or is it something that's kind of snuck up on you and here it is?
I mean, I've always expected to have some kind of role. I didn't know what that role would be, but I always expected that I was going to be able to have an impact on this team. Devin's situation was definitely unfortunate, but make sure you got to be ready to go next man up.
On that term, what would you like to get into? Would you like to be a coach one day or are there business things that you think about?
I'm still thinking about that. To this day I'm graduated twice and I'm still having decisions to make, so we'll see what happens in the future.
I think most quarterbacks like the opportunity to throw it down field and cut loose every now and then, like... do you look forward to that? I want, I want to be able to do that here?
Oh, that's every QB’s dream. Even the QBs that are run a triple option, they still want to throw the ball, but whatever is called, we're going to run it. We're going to do the best of our ability.
Is it a relief to play at home, especially after dealing with that noise at the dome a few weeks ago? And have you ever experienced anything like that?
I've never experienced anything like that. That stadium was so loud, couldn't hear myself thinking for a little bit. But it's great to be back at home with the home fanbase. I know they're going to be out there, they're going to be loud and we're excited to get back in front of our team.
