Breon Pass: "I Want To Be More Of A Leader"

NC State sophomore guard Breon Pass discusses his development, potential role, and much more heading into the season.

It feels like you're going to be like the jack of all trades playing one, two, three, whatever the team needs kind of guy. That kind of the vibe you're getting?
Yes, sir. I'll play any role that coach keeps giving me this year. I feel like this year is going to be a better year than last year for me and the team as well. I got a lot of prove this year, so I'm looking forward to it.

What difference do you see just being a basketball player full time?
I've seen, for me, I’ve just seen my IQ get much better on the court and I feel like my body has transformed into the basketball lane now. So, yeah, so other than that, then I feel like everything else the same.

What was main things you worked on this off season?
I want to say probably ball handling pretty much more. My reads especially come off picking a role. I worked on that all summer. And mainly getting bigger. Last year I was around 170, so this year I'm trying to play at 185 or 180 and I'm about there this year. So I feel like this year I worked on my body much more.

What did you kind of learn from Jarkel? A different perspective, I'm guessing?
Kel is a leader, man. That's what he brought to the team this summer and he taught me off knowing him for two months, his leadership. And his work ethic is crazy time. Every time you see Jarkel he's always in the gym. So from him I learned how to be a leader and just to work hard every day.

What's your funniest Terquavion story, that's printable?
Funniest moment. It's a lot of moments we had together.

Yeah, it's hard to name. We've been so much. Geez man. I don't know. I don't know.

Any bus trips, CP3 trips, anything that you remember?
It's so much. It's so much, no I can't even tell you. But when me and T together, it's just a lot of good vibes, man. Me and him grew up together and I’ve known him for a long time, so every time we with each other we have a good time together.

What's been the sort of energy that you've got that you've seen from the team in this off season?
Everybody here want to win. Last year we had a bad year, and this year we want to come in with a winning mindset, this year. I feel like everybody is locked in this year and ready to compete.

The team as a whole got a bit of a chip on its shoulder?
Yeah, I feel like everybody has something to prove this year. We have a lot of winners on the team this year. Got a lot of people who work hard every day and we ready for it.

Individually, what's something that you want to have for yourself, this season?
I want to be more of a leader this year. I want to play my role and be more vocal this year, and lead my team to victory.
