Strengths
I have seen Jacob play in person once and at the Opening. I think he is the best NFL quarterback prospect the moment he walks on campus. He has a very strong arm, solid mobility, and great field awareness. He also has an uncanny ability to throw on the run. This is something that shows up on his junior and senior film as well, the ability to make throws that are off schedule. When he has to get outside of the pocket and find players downfield he keeps his head up and thinks pass first. Another positive is his leadership ability which makes him special. He took a team that was 0-10 when he was a sophomore and made them a 7-4 playoff team the next year as the starting quarterback. In his two seasons as the starter, Jay high school won 13 games which is as many as the program had won the previous five years combined. He was never playing with the best talent but still found ways to win quite a few games.
Weaknesses
His stats his senior year have to be a concern but Zeno did not have the best talent around him which led to quite a few drops, bad routes, and missed assignments. He only had 1,800 yards of total offense and 26 touchdowns on the year but again his receivers and play calling did not give him much of a chance. The running back for Jay had 70 more carries than Zeno had pass attempts. So while there are concerns there are answers to most of these. The one area that I want to see him improve is his accuracy though. For his career he is well below 55% and yes his receivers are a part of this he has to take some blame too. Ball placement and touch are the two things that I think will help his accuracy the most.
How I see him fitting in at Baylor
He is a top 15 quarterback recruit in the entire country and he has all the tools to be very successful. I think he will push for the 2nd string spot all spring since he early enrolled. Whether he gets it or not does not matter because I think that try out could last all season. Hopefully Baylor gets up big on some teams early in the season so we can see him in a few games this year.
