First of the two home spring matches on Saturday at 2pm vs HPU. These are free to attend. I feel good about this team making significant improvement in 2026, compared to 2025, given that they are a very young squad.

Won 3 sets to 2 against HPU. To the best of my memory, the scores for the sets were:

Set 1: Won 25-17
Set 2: Lost 23-25
Set 3: Lost 17-25
Set 4: Won 25-18
Set 5: Won 25-15

I was fairly impressed with the new freshmen. Silver and Kowren should help us out a lot offensively (hitting). Silver is a high flyer.

HPU was a pretty good team, with good athletes. They were 12-2 in their conference last year.

I went to the UNC match. As I recall, the first four sets were all close, with at least three of them being extremely close. To the best of my memory, UNC won the first set 25-23 and NC State won the second set 25-22. UNC won both the 3rd and 4th sets, by just a couple points on average, with one of them being another 25-22 or 25-23 set. I left during the 5th set and don't know how it turned out.

UNC was a fairly solid team (6th in ACC last season) and is returning the vast majority of their best players from last year (and played in this spring game). And I felt like NC State could hang with them. In the 3rd and 4th sets, both teams were heavily subbing in their 2nd and 3rd string players, so you can't really glean a whole lot from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th sets.

We have such a young team (heavily relying on true sophomores and freshman in 2026), that I feel good about the upside of this team in 2026 and the coming years, with good potential for growth/improvement.
