We have come to expect three gimmees when it comes to ACC Championships - Women's XC, Men's swimming, and wrestling. Last year we added gymnastics and men's basketball. Now...

Women's XC stumbled at the ACC meet and lost for the first time in a decade. Their prospects to four-peat at nattys are slim.
With Cal now in the ACC, Men's swimming will no longer be an automatic.
Not sure of wrestling prospects but VT will always be a problem, and Stanford just knocked off #6 Iowa State.

So...
Can gymnastics repeat?
Can Wes pull off another title? ND looks stout, not to mention perennial powers Stanford and Louisville.
Can baseball finally get Elliot a title?

The Director's Cup standings after the fall season are going to look pretty mediocre.

Things are kinda sobering right now.

I've thought about this a good deal as well. Cal and Stanford are extremely good in the Olympic sports, and make it much more difficult for NC State to win ACC titles in many of the sports we have been very successful in over the last 5 to 10 years.

Cal was #3 in the final gymnastics rankings last season and Stanford was #18. We were #16. So it will be tough to win an ACC title in gymnastics going forward.

We won the ACC title in women's tennis in 2023. Adding perennial powerhouse Stanford (who have around 20 national titles in women's tennis) makes winning an ACC title going forward much harder.

The Wolfpack has been winning about 4 ACC team titles per year on average for the last 4 or 5 years, and won 5 last year (2023-2024 academic year). With us not getting the women's XC title and in this new ACC, we may only get 1 or 2 this year, or noneā€¦and 3 at the maximum. Men's swimming and wrestling both are probably a 50/50 chance. I would say VT are slight favorites to win the ACC in wrestling. Women's basketball is probably the only other reasonably decent chance for an ACC title this year.

Thank you for starting this topic.

I was curious, but have not had time to do the research
