NC State men's basketball junior guard Jayden Taylor scored 22 of his career-high 28 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough as Pitt defeated NC State, 81-73, Saturday evening at the Petersen Events Center.

Taylor finished the game 9-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-10 from three-point range on his way to finishing with a game-high 28 points. He added a career-high tying seven rebounds and three assists in the loss.

He was the only NC State player to score in double figures as DJ Burns, Jr., finished with nine points, Casey Morsell and Ben Middlebrooks each added eight and Michael O'Connell finished with seven points.

After Taylor made a three-pointer on NC State's first possession of the second half, Pitt rattled off 10 straight points to push its advantage to the largest of the game, 17 points, with 16:55 remaining.

The Panthers lead stayed in double figures until NC State went on an 11-0 run with Taylor scoring nine of the Pack's 11 points during the stretch to get within three, 70-67, with 2:26 to go.

The Pack could get no closer though as the Panthers scored the next five points and NC State could never get within one possession again.

NC State led for a majority of the opening 12 minutes as Pitt did not take its first lead of the game until a three-pointer by Jaland Lowe broke a 23-all tie with 7:21 left in the first half.

The three-pointer was part of a 16-3 run that pushed Pitt's lead to 11 with under two minutes to play in the opening half. A three-point play by Jaden Taylor brought NC State back within single digits but Pitt responded on the other end to take a 39-29 lead into the halftime locker room.

Carlton Carrington led Pitt with 23 points while Blake Hinson finished with 21 points.

NC State is back in action Tuesday in the ACC Tournament played at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The Pack will face Louisville in a first round matchup with tipoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
