Sorry if this has already been posted, but this seems like some serious stuff.

That's a lot of cancer cases, I'm afraid the fallout from this one doesn't bode well for the current leadership.

It def. seems like a lot, but what was the timespan and/or population out of which that many cases were reported?

For sure, was discussing with colleagues today, that the media leaves us with little detail beyond the sensationalistic headlines….the faculty vote was probably based on emotion rather than fact and evidence too.

I think I saw it was built in 1968. It was certainly there and reasonably new when I was there in the mid 70s. As a psych major, I spent a lot of time there. At this point I have no reason to think it contributed to my cancer.

Yeah, I would think the hazard level would go up exponentially (maybe?) from time of construction as materials degrade over time and become loose/airborne. My wife was also a psych major back in the 80s.

The stories of some current faculty placing cheesecloth over HVAC vents and seeing the cloth turn black over the course of a few weeks or so makes my skin crawl, regardless of what the black stuff was.

The enviro testing with HVAC units running will be telling.

Not that it couldn't be an indication of something else, but if you place cheesecloth over a vent, you are going to trap condensation on the cloth and it will turn black with mildew. No different than sitting a piece of furniture over a vent in your own house.

That's true - if the air doesn't run continuously then you would have the opportunity for condensation to form on the cloth and breed things. Although they were reportedly using the cheesecloth because of black particles in the air (which could also be mildew). Hopefully the investigation and testing sorts it all out.

Yeah, block particles could be any number of things not necessarily PCB related. Not something supposed to be there either way, but not necessarily connected.

I honestly can't even remember if I ever had a class in that building or not... did it have a large auditorium-style lecture hall in it, because that's the only chance I can potentially think of me ever being there.

This is such a bad look. My only thought is that it must be bad and everyone at State is in CYA mode

On the surface it does look bad.
