Anybody have a good lunch spot that is equidistant between Wilmington and Raleigh, or nearabout? Trying to meet my Pop somewhere this weekend, but have to stay in town as another family member is in hospice, and we are helping care for her.

Warsaw is probably your best bet. What kind of food are you looking for?

I would say no, but its pretty barren after Benson on 40 until you hit Wilmington.

Just come all the way down here to have lunch with him, and then I'll take you out for drinks afterwards...

But seriously, Wendell Murphy's Mad Boar (Exit 385) is about as close to halfway for a nice sit down place as possible... you probably get cheated (coming from the Raleigh direction) by about 10 miles or so.

Anything else is either going to be fast food, or you are going to have to drive several miles off 40 to go into a town somewhere.

If you want to deal in semantics, Baltic, NC is the official midpoint. But, for people with common sense who have driven 40 know that there are limited options once you clear Warsaw.

A little closer to Wilmington than Raleigh but the Mad Boar Restaurant & Pub is right off of 40 and Hwy 41 near Wallace. Exit 385.

Thanks for the recs. Called to set it up and the old man is sick so we're pushing it back. Appreciate the suggestions though.

The Warsaw area looks like it has a few good options, especially if you like Mexican food. Blands barbecue if you want something like that. I suppose it really depends on how close to a central meeting point you want to go.

Just seems like Benson would be practically a suburb of Raleigh. It'd be like meeting in Burgaw and saying it was a midpoint. *shrug*

I'm not offering new info here, but that Warsaw exit is almost exactly halfway and has a bunch of options. Smithfield's is our go-to at that exit 80% of the time.

Billy's Pork & Beef Center is in Wallace, and right off the interstate. It's a hidden gem. Some of the best bbq you'll ever eat, straight from their butcher shop into their restaurant.
