Lol " Tens of thousands of pounds of goods, food, water being delivered to the people of East Palestine, Ohio" = Trump branded water.

Trump wouldn't have done anything if he didn't think it would be politically expedient to him. It's all a show.

Bettigieg showing up a day later and accusing Republicans of being at fault is also part of the show. Just go solve the problem, stop taking credit or assigning blame while there's still cleanup work to do. So damn frustrating

Respectfully, what have you done for the good people of Ohio?

This whataboutism argument is tired.

The original post said Trump did something that wasn't about him. I'm simply pointing out that that's not the case. The man said his water is better than all other water. What does that mean? Is it more wet?

He took an opportunity to take an industrial accident and instead of putting the focus on the residents of East Palestine he turned it into a political rally complete with Trump branded water hats and tshirts.

I find it fascinating that a bunch of small federal government proponents are all of a sudden all upset that the Federal Government didn't do anything.

What's the policy difference that Trump has that Biden doesn't that would've changed the response to this accident?

Is all political theater and I'm tired of it.

But Trump... water.

He really triggers you. Hilarious that you think his visit did not put the focus on the residents of East Palestine. You have no objectivity. It literally caused the current administration to quit ignoring the tragedy and visit. Biden visited the Ukraine. East Palestine is beneath him.

The whataboutism argument is tired? Yeah, so is the TDS argument.

He visited, brought water, brought food, brought attention. Good for him.

BTW my opinion is this is a State and not a Federal problem and should be handled by Ohio. I guess that small Federal Govt mindset makes me a Marxist.

I don't care. Doesn't take much effort to care more than the Biden administration though.

You know I hate Trump with about as much passion as anyone (especially as someone who voted for him twice).

While I agree with you it was grandstanding, I don't really have an issue with it. Even if it only gave the locals there some easy access to drinking water for a day, that's ok. We pride ourselves on being a country that stand up for those most impacted, so while contributors often have ulterior motives, it's better than nothing

What's ridiculous is using an industrial accident as a way to blame republicans for it or coming to the town under the guise of "I care" and having a political rally.

I know you all don't understand it because you are defending the populist Republican opinion. That's fine. But it's disingenuous to be dismissive of the disagreement without any consideration

No one here can answer a simple question of what should the Federal Government have done differently that would have impacted this incident?

Instead, it's being called names and being dismissed and generally acting out here. No one wants to answer a simple damn question.

I agree with your small govt position, however, we've not had such a dinosaur in more than 100 years. That fact that Biden is a no-show handing out billions of dollars in Ukraine and stoking WW3......and Buttplug is taking personal leave is offensive to most here. A photo-op is better than zilch. You're quiet on this issue, yet you complain about Trump and Trump bottled water.

If I had my own bottled water I'd be giving it out too........I sure as he$$ would not be out paying retail for it. I guess you would.

The neglect and visible lack of concern from BidenButt kind of created a wide open political opp for the likes of Trump. Had they done their damned jobs and taken hold of the situation, they'd not have been embarrassed by Trump and Trump wouldn't have had the political impact that he did.

Oh, to be clear, if shoes were reversed and a Dem candidate did this while the Trump admin was doing it's normal due diligence with Fed agencies, some of the posters here lauding Trump would be screaming about how it was done for show

hell yes I am. The State of Ohio employees competent professionals at the state level that wouldn't do anything different the. What the EPA would do. They use the same monitoring equipment, they use the same testing equipment and labs.

All you are getting with a Federal response is a Federal bureaucracy.

Norfolk Southern had to pick the lesser of two evils, drain the tanks and burn the contents, or let them explode under pressure in the tanks and level the town.

Pretty tough decision to make. I think it's premature to call this and "air and water disaster" at this time.

Why do you think the Federal Government needs to handle the situation? Again, I am for smaller Federal Govt, letting the State of Ohio manage an industrial accident within the State of Ohio is and was the right thing to do. What federal regulation was broken here That requires a federal response?

(I'm going to try and respond to you in hopes there is dialogue) I'm not sure what you mean, I don't care if the State government is democratic or republican, if this same accident happened tomorrow in California, it's not a federal disaster. It's a state issue to handle.

Sometimes just being on the spot, makes people think you're doing everything in your power to remediate makes a difference. Neither the Prez nor the TransSec have been out there much. Or, to better answer your question, they could be doing what Trump has been doing, lol.

hokie can't answer what the federal government has done that he supports. Unless his answer is ignore it. Is that what you support, hokie? An air and water disaster should be ignored by the sitting administration. Or is 3 weeks not enough for you to determine if it's a disaster yet?

Maybe hokie doesn't want the federal government acknowledging or helping facilitate disaster clean up. Maybe he's fine with residents not having drinking water or clean air because he pretends he thinks it's the states responsibility and the federal government should have no involvement.

Maybe it's all a bull**** charade because Trump did something and now hokie has to pretend he "cares" about the theater.

One thing I think is very clear though. hokie wants attention.
