Ernie is an incredible person. The story of the relationship with his son is an incredibly touching story. Espn did a show/story on them a while ago. Here's a link to the short version.

His son lived a lot longer than expected. I'm sure due to the love and care from a loving family and community.

Thanks for posting. I didn't know the backstory. As an adoptive parent, knowing that another family chose to adopt a child with special needs is just beyond amazing. Great love story

I believe Ernie was featured on a 30 for 30 type story. I was a great story and the life he lived with his son and the rest of his children and family is amazing.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I'll echo all of this. I think it was the 30 for 30 or similar documentary story I saw on Ernie's family and his son Michael a few years ago.

Impossible to make it through that story and keep it together. Incredibly touching and reminds us all to be so thankful for the gifts we've got instead of focusing on the things we don't.

Would love to think dudes like Michael get to come back as Mario Andretti or Usain Bolt in the next life. RIP buddy.

Take 8 minutes, bring some tissues and hopefully we can all be a little more like the late Michael Johnson today.
