Congrats to the girls on the big win last night! I saw that it was on TV and was going to turn it on, but never did. My niece played 4 years at Valpo and I always like watching.
Being an N. C. State fan builds great character!

The NC State volleyball team (13-3, 3-2) fell to Miami (11-5, 4-2) after an intense five sets at James L. Knight Sports Complex Friday evening.

The meeting was a battle throughout, with the match tying on 28 different occasions and NC State rallying back from significant deficits to keep the match going in two sets.

NC State took the second and fourth sets after struggling to gain momentum in the first and third. In the fourth set, the Pack led until Miami went on a 6-0 run to take the lead 21-19. The Wolfpack took back the lead after a 6-1 run and ended the set 27-25.

The fifth set was a struggle for the Wolfpack to start, as Miami continued to find gaps in the NC State's defense. The Pack rallied back from a 14-7 deficit to tie things 14-all, but Miami took the next two points to take the match.

Sophomore Ava Brizard led the way with 19 kills, falling one short of tying her career high. Fellow sophomore Courtney Bryant recorded her first career double-double as she finished with 15 kills and 15 digs. Fifth year setter Kristen McDaniel led the setters with 32 assists, while also recording nine digs and one service ace. Senior Riley Shaak recorded five blocks and four kills in the match.

The Pack heads to northern Florida to take on Florida State on Sunday Oct. 8. First serve is set for 1pm on ACCNX.

NC State volleyball dropped its second game of the weekend against the Florida State Seminoles, losing in a tough 3-2 battle. Despite the loss, the Wolfpack offense made its mark on the court, with two players setting new career highs in kills.
The Wolfpack (13-4, 3-3 ACC) traveled down to Florida to take on both Florida ACC teams, losing to Miam before taking on the Seminoles. Florida State (12-6, 6-0), on the other hand, continued its ACC domination and added another win to its undefeated record in conference play.
Even though it failed to secure the win, two NC State athletes hit an impressive milestone sophomore outside hitter Ava Brizard topped her then-career high of 19 kills, set two days earlier against Miami. Brizard dominated this game, tallying a staggering 25 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Courtney Bryant also topped her career high 15 kills set against Miami with 17 kills against the Seminoles.
NC State started off strong in the first set, winning 25-20. Junior opposite hitter Amanda Rice started the game with a kill and finished the set with three kills and a block assist. The red-and-white's defense at the net was on fire, totalling four blocks, as well as remaining secure behind the service line. Senior defensive specialist Skye Stokes and junior middle blocker Jada Allen both tallied a service ace in the set.

At the beginning of the second set, it was clear that the Seminoles took all the momentum from the Pack when they took a quick 11-4 lead. Nineteen of the 25 points from FSU were from kills, and the Pack didn't record any blocks in this set.
The third set swung back in the Pack's favor. The red-and-white went on multiple scoring runs to secure the 2-1 lead, but from there it was all Florida State the Seminoles took the fourth set 25-20 and the fifth set 15-10 to seal the win.
The Wolfpack travels back to Raleigh to take on Wake Forest on Friday, Oct. 13. First serve set for 7 p.m.

The NC State volleyball team (13-4, 3-3) dropped a five set thriller to Florida State (12-6, 6-0) Sunday afternoon at Tully Gymnasium.

The Wolfpack was paced by sophomore Ava Brizard who recorded a career high 25 kills on 53 attempts to finish with a .415 hitting percentage. The last time a member of the Pack recorded 25 or more kills was in 2012 when Brie Merriwether recorded 26 against Clemson.

The Pack took set one and senior libero Skye Stokes recorded her 20th ace of the season, finishing the afternoon with two. The Seminoles made several attempts to take a lead in the set, but were unsuccessful as the Wolfpack dominated, taking the set 25-20.

The Wolfpack struggled to maintain the momentum in set two and the beginning of set three, but later found a spark in the third that allowed them to take over -- Brizard led the way with eight kills through the third. NC State took the third set after a challenge showed that FSU touched the ball on the block giving the Pack their 25th point.

NC State continued to lead in the beginning of set four, but the Seminoles took over after a 4-0 scoring run gave them the lead, 17-15. On the Pack's 17th point of the set, Brizard surpassed her previous career high of 20 kills. The Seminoles went on the take the set, sending the match into a fifth.

The two teams battled in the fifth, but FSU maintained a lead that the Pack was unable to top. The Seminoles took the set 15-10, ending the match on top.

Brizard added seven digs to her stat line, in addition to 25 kills. Fifth year setter Kristen McDaniel led the Wolfpack setters with 33 assists, in addition to four digs and one service ace. Stokes led defensively with 24 digs and recorded one kill in the meeting. Sophomore Courtney Bryant also recorded a career high 17 kills and added 12 digs to record her third straight double-double.

The Wolfpack returns to Raleigh to host Wake Forest and Virginia Tech for week four of ACC play. The Deacons visit Reynolds Coliseum on Friday Oct. 13 and the Hokies visit on Oct. 15 for the annual Pink Match.

A little off topic, but it's interesting that most of the best high school volleyball teams in the state of North Carolina are located here in the triangle (6 of the top 10 class 4A teams from the triangle). I went to the Middle Creek (Apex) vs Green Level (Cary) game last night. Middle Creek is currently the #1 ranked 4A team in the state, and Green Level won the 4A state championship in 2021, and are currently ranked #8 in the state. The level of play was surprisingly very high. There are at least two players on Middle Creek already committed to play D1 volleyball (Columbia, beach volleyball at UCLA), and I thought the best player on the court was Asia Thigpen of Green Level who is committed to play at Kentucky. Both teams had athletic girls who were 6'-3" to 6'-5" tall. It was impressive.

Also, it's been a while since I've been to a high school gym....but they had about a 12 ft x 12 ft video board on the wall of the gym, flashing advertisements and playing other video throughout the game, and they played a whole introduction "hype" video on it before the match started (with the lights turned off in the gym), and had a guy with a laptop and a mic near the court giving play by play and playing music between points, etc. The whole production was almost the same as going to a game in Reynolds from that perspective.
