2023 shooting guard Laci Steele is rated a Top 60 prospect by ESPN and is capable of contributing right away on the next level as a true freshman.

"My strengths are I can score on all three levels,” Steele said.  “I'm a really good shooter, and I can pass it well. I'm an all-around player with a high IQ.  I can improve my shooting for college because there the three-point line is further back, so I want to continue extending my range and shooting off screens.”

Following the summer AAU circuit she cut her list to five schools: NC State, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, and Southern Cal.

She has now taken three official visits to NC State, Northwestern, and Texas A&M. Over the weekend she was in Raleigh.

"It was great,” Steele said of the visit.  “I spent a lot of time with the coaches and players.  I got to watch a practice, and we went to a football game.  I met the chancellor and the athletic director. I met a lot of good people.”

What was the highlight of the visit for Steele?

“The highlight was watching practice and spending tme with the girls,” she said.  “I got to see them compete and how coach Moore coaches. It was really cool because you got to see behind closed doors what it's like. It was really fun.

“They are really competitive. A lot of the things they do is one team versus another team, so it got very competitive, which I liked because I’m a competitive person.”

NC State’s fanbase has impressed Steele as well, who has also taken an unofficial visit.

“They have a great basketball team and done well in the past,” she said.  “Their fans are amazing and they sell out most conference games in their stadium.  The coaching staff is great.  That’s their main selling points."

Next up for Steele is a visit this weekend to Southern California.

“I don't have a favorite,” she said.  “I'm looking at all of them equally and trying to wait and see. I think it's going to be difficult because certain things stand out for each school, but you have to pick just one. That's why I'm visiting everywhere to really take my time and make it so it won't be as hard.

“The biggest factors are the coaching staff, how the girls like the coaching staff, the overall feel from campus, and how the coaching staff talks to me and my family... how we connect, things like that. It's all really important.

“I’m looking to make a decision within the two weeks after my final visit.”

NC State head coach Wes Moore followed up the official visit with Steele by going in-home this week.
