The good news keeps coming for NC State women’s basketball. Following Wednesday’s news that seniors Kayla Jones, Kai Crutchfield and Raina Perez would return for the 2021-22 season, Missisippi State transfer guard Madison Hayes announced her commitment to NC State on her Instagram Thursday.

Hayes entered the transfer portal after averaging 4.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in just 20.2 minutes per game for the Bull Dogs last season. She shot 44% from the field and 39% from 3. Hayes, one of the top transfers on the market, was named to the SEC All-Freshman team by the league’s coaches last season, and started the last nine games of Mississippi State’s season.

Hayes was a 2020 McDonald’s All American, five-star recruit and ranked as the No. 28 player and No. 7 guard in the country in the 2020 recruiting class by ESPNW.

Hayes adds to a guard rotation for the 2021-22 season that includes her, Perez, Crutchfield, Genesis Bryant and Kendal Moore. With the transfers of Elle Sutphin, Dontavia Waggoner, Rebecca Demeka and Jada Rice, she’ll also add some depth to NC State’s roster, and should get minutes in the Wolfpack’s rotation next year.

With last year’s free year of eligibility, Hayes will be a freshman with four years of eligibility remaining.

With additional scholarship spots open, expect NC State to continue to be active in the transfer market.
