Daniels Driven to Power Pack in the Coming Campaign

With the 2019-20 season quickly approaching, NC State redshirt junior guard Devon Daniels is ready to aid the Wolfpack’s quest for success. With the first contest against ACC foe Georgia Tech, Daniels is eager to get back onto the court.

“It’s a little different [playing against a conference opponent first],” Daniels said. “Usually, your first game is versus somebody not in the same conference, but I think it’s going to be some great competition. I can’t wait for that.”

As one of the older players on the team, Daniels not only has to perform well on the court, but he also needs to be a leader for the newcomers to the program. The Battle Creek, Michigan product embraces that role, and he sees what such a presence can bring to the table.

“As an older guy, I want to lead the new guys [by] coming in every day, show them how to work hard and be consistent,” Daniels said. “They’ve got to get stronger and more adjusted to the game, but they’re going to be good. Dereon [Seabron]’s going to bring a lot of athleticism. A.J. [Taylor]’s going to be shooting some. Pat [Andree]’s going to shoot the crap out of the ball. Danny [Dixon]’s going to be a big body. They all have something to bring.”

As an off-ball guard, Daniels often finds himself in tandem with senior point guard Markell Johnson. Their chemistry together pairs well with the Wolfpack’s frenetic offense, and their bond just amplifies their respective successes on the court.

“Markell’s my brother,” Daniels said. “We’d do anything for each other. We push each other every day to get better on and off the court. I always knew that [Markell] was talented, even when I was sitting out. He’s a great passer, and he scores extremely well. I think he showed that last year.”

Daniels will be one of the more pivotal players for the Pack this season. After averaging 9.3 points per game last year, Daniels needs to boost his role on the court, but his drive to succeed can certainly prove to be the difference-maker for NC State in the upcoming campaign.

“I want to get better every day,” Daniels said. “I want to win a lot, and I’m going to do whatever I have to do to help the team win.”
