Huge Year Ahead For Emeka Emezie

NC State junior wide receiver Emeka Emezie knows he has big shoes to fill. Kelvin Harmon and Jakobi Meyers are off to the NFL and Steph Louis graduated.

However, Emezie isn’t focused on replacing them. He wants to pave his own path.

“Me personally, I take it differently,” Emezie said. “If I’m trying to prove it for somebody else, I feel like I’m not playing for the right reason. I try to prove it to myself and meet my own goals. We all have our own goals and trying to prove it to ourselves, not somebody else.”

Of course, Emezie spent two years learning from future NFL receivers, and he didn’t waste that opportunity to learn from them.

“Kelvin, I try to imitate his physicalness. ‘Kobi and Steph, I try to imitate their quickness; how they get in and out of breaks and how they set up routes.”

While Emezie has had an excellent first two years in Raleigh, he still has work to do.

“I try to take it to another level, honestly,” Emezie said. “I was here working my butt off every single day. It’s starting to pay off, and I can tell.

“I’m a huge film guy. I watch two hours of film per day in the offseason. I want to improve on catching. I get out here and get sweaty and the wet ball; you have to focus on the ball. I want to work on my blocking and effort when I’m tired.  You have to be focused when you’re tired.”

As a whole, Emezie has complete faith in the ability of himself and the other receivers to pick up where Harmon, Meyers, and Louis left off.

“We’re very excited,” Emezie said. “I don’t think there will be a drop off. I think we will be great still.  We have great guys.”
