RALEIGH – The NC State women's basketball team's recruiting class of 2019—ranked seventh nationally by ESPNW in November—became even stronger recently with the addition of 2020 forward Elle Sutphin, who reclassified and signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join the Wolfpack in advance of the 2019-20 season.

"We're really excited to add Elle to an already stellar recruiting class," NC State head coach Wes Moore said. "She is a long forward that can go inside to post or rebound, but she also possesses guard-like skills that make her a versatile scorer."

A five-star recruit with an ESPNW Scout's Grade of 97, Sutphin is ranked nationally as the 39th best player (No. 1 in the state of North Carolina) and the 10th best forward in the class of 2020. By reclassifying, she joins the freshman class of Jakia Brown-Turner (ESPNW's No. 16 overall in the class of 2019), Jada Boyd (No. 34), Camille Hobby (No. 99), and Kendal Moore.

"There is a lot of momentum and energy around our program right now," Moore added. "Elle's early arrival only adds to that!"

Named to the USA Today First Team All-North Carolina squad in 2019, Sutphin is a native of Pilot Mountain, N.C. She played high school basketball at East Surry High School and played her club basketball with the Winston-Salem Stealers. En route to helping East Surry reach the NCHSAA Class 1-A state championship game at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season, she averaged 21.9 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest. Sutphin was also named to the Winston-Salem Journal's All-Northwest Team in April.

This summer, Sutphin competed for the West Team at the 2019 North Carolina East-West All-Star Game, leading her squad with 17 points. Future teammate and classmate Kendal Moore also participated in the game, scoring 17 points in the East Team's 81-78 victory.
