The second-ranked NC State baseball team suffered a doubleheader sweep on Saturday to No. 12 Louisville at Doak Field. The Wolfpack dropped game one, 14-10, and fell, 14-2, in game two.

The teams played a doubleheader due to heavy rain in the area on Friday evening, as the Wolfpack couldn’t overcome an early 9-2 deficit in game one and was unable to get around the hot Louisville bats in the nightcap.

It marked NC State's first series loss of the season, as the Wolfpack falls to 29-7 (12-5 ACC) while the Cardinals improve to 27-8 (12-5 ACC) on the year.

Quick Hits (Game One)

-The Cards quickly took a 1-0 advantage in the first. A one-out double and single put runners at the corners, and Logan Wyatt’s groundout to third knocked in the run.

-The Pack countered with a run of its own to knot the game in the bottom frame. Evan Edwards’ RBI double off the right center wall scored Jonny Butler after he led off with a single through the left side.

-The Cards re-gained its lead in the second on a bases-loaded error.

-In the third, Louisville took a 9-1 lead, as a three-run homer to right by Alex Binelas followed by Tyler Fitzgerald’s 2-RBI single up the middle and Wyatt’s 2-RBI double to right field plated the seven runs.

-Will Wilson hit a leadoff homer to left, his team-tying 10th of the year, to get one back in the home half of the third.

-In the fifth, Wilson and Bailey launched back-to-back solo shots over the left field wall on two outs to cut the Pack’s deficit to 9-4.

-Louisville extended its lead to 12-4 in the sixth with three runs on four hits and a pair of Wolfpack errors.

-NC State tacked on a run in the sixth when Jonny Butler drove pinch runner Terrell Tatum home on a single up the middle. Luca Tresh led off the side with a single to the second baseman, and Tatum moved into scoring position on a passed ball after he entered the game.

-The Wolfpack had a four-run burst on three hits in the seventh to pull back within three of the Cards. The inning was started by Tyler McDonough’s two-RBI single after Bailey and Edwards walked to start the side. Pinch hitter Marek Chlup’s RBI triple to center and David Vazquez’s sac fly to left scored the other two runs of the frame.

-A two-run double by Binelas in the eighth extended Louisville’s lead to 14-9.

-Once again, NC State continued to cut down its deficit in the eighth, as Chlup’s sac fly to deep left field plated Edwards after he led off with a triple to center.

-Both teams went in order in the ninth, and the score held to give the Cards the first game of the series.
