Doeren: "It's Going To Be A Good Environment"

NC State head coach Dave Doeren met with the media for the final time prior to Saturday's game against Marshall.  Check out what he had to say.

Quick start... is that one of the themes after falling behind Marshall last year?
Obviously we beat ourselves up and down the field last year.  Playing the night game will be a new experience for the guys, haven't done that in a while, playing on the road, so there's a lot of things that create us to talk about focus.

We're making sure we execute. To me one of the greatest things you can do is go somewhere else and play your best football in front of their crowd.  I think that's something as a coach and as a team we need to be able to do. At times we've done well and other times we haven't.

It's a good challenge and opportunity this week. I know it's going to be a good environment there.

Any differences with what they did with Litton at quarterback and the new redshirt freshman?
They have a few more weapons.

They are still featuring Brady, don't get me wrong, but the other receiver across from him, No. 7, is off to a good start as well.

Both of the running backs are running the ball. It's a different offensive coordinator so the system is different than last year. The run game isn't much different, but tey are running th ball more and they are more balanced... spreading the ball around a little more than they did last year.

How much time did it take to pick up the pace from where you left off?
I thought Sunday the guys had good focus and energy; they were excited to get back on the field... I just think getting back to some normalcy for our guys was good.

They want to play  so to have that opportunity to re-focus and see another team is good for them.

Did they lose anything conditioning-wise at all?
I didn't see it, but we did have a long practice on Sunday because of that. I gassed them pretty good Sunday with them having Monday off so we could get some conditioning out of it.

We got a lot of good work in there to help them with that.

Even though it wasn't expected, I would think it would help health-wise.
It can, some of the guys... like Steph feels great so it was really good for him. There's other guys you hope by 7pm on Saturday will feel great. 

Like I said in the press conference, there's positives in the situation.  For a mental break and these guys to rest and eat. We had some guys down some weight with that hot month.  That was good for them in terms of sustaining their health.

What's Cary's excitement level for his first game?
I'm sure he's excited.  

He's kind of a level, even-keeled guy. He doesn't get too up or too down. I'm sure inside he's excited to get back on the field, but it's not something he wears on his face.
