NC State landed a huge addition in late 2017 when redshirt sophomore tight end Cary Angeline made the decision to transfer from Southern Cal to NC State.

Inside Pack Sports caught up with Angeline recently and he talked with us about his transition to Raleigh, adjustment to life in the southeast and thoughts on sitting out the first three games of the 2018 season.

After the transfer from Southern Cal you had some time away from the game of football. How did you handle that?
Yeah, it definitely was tough but it was definitely the right decision for me. It’s a great opportunity here at NC State and I’m very excited.

How has the transition into NC State’s offense gone so far?
It’s gone well. I’m still learning the playbook and still getting a lot of reps to get as used toit as I can and it’s going well and I’m very excited.

What are some of your strengths and what do you think you can bring to this offense?
I think I’m a vertical threat in the passing game and I can block very well too and I’ve been working on all aspects of my game.

How has it gone, getting to know Ryan Finley and the other guys on offense?
He was a transfer too and as far as the tight end group I think we have a strong relationship. Everyone kind of looks out for each other.

What’s your perspective on the NCAA’s decision to make you sit out those first three games?
Going into it I had to have the mindset that I was going to sit out the first three games and I was definitely hoping for the best. But it is what is and nothing I can do about it now.

What was your reaction when you heard the news?
I was definitely hoping to play in the first game but like I said it is what is now I’m just getting as prepared as I can for the season.

During your high school career have you ever had to sit out like that?
I’ve never really had to sit out games for injuries or anything like that but I’m just going to help my team prepare the best I can whether it be me playing on the scout team offense to give the defense a good look or whatever helps the team.

What’s been the biggest difference practicing at Southern Cal versus coming to NC State?
Obviously camp is always going to be hard but it’s definitely a little more humid down in here in North Carolina and that’s the biggest adjustment but camp is going to be a challenge.
