NC State men's soccer has unveiled its schedule for the upcoming 2022 season, as announced by sixth-year head coach George Kiefer on Monday. The Wolfpack's slate is highlighted by 10 home matches set to be played at Dail Soccer Stadium.

NC State will host Queens in an exhibition on Aug. 14 and will hit the road to visit Coastal Carolina for a final preseason tuneup on Aug. 20 before stepping into regular-season action.

The Wolfpack's first pair of official matches will be played at home when it welcomes Loyola University Maryland (Aug. 26) and Wofford (Aug. 29) to Raleigh.

The team's next three matches will take place on the road as NC State visits Radford (Sept. 2), takes on Mercer in Blacksburg, Va., (Sept. 5) and steps into conference play at Wake Forest (Sept. 10).

In non-conference action, NC State is also set to host James Madison (Sept. 13), High Point (Oct. 4) and William & Mary (Oct. 18) and will visit College of Charleston (Oct. 11) for midweek matches throughout the rest of the season.

The Wolfpack's 2022 conference slate features home matches against Virginia Tech (Sept. 23), Louisville (Sept. 30), North Carolina (Oct. 14) and Syracuse (Oct. 22) and additional road games at Pitt (Sept. 16), Boston College (Oct. 7) and Clemson (Oct. 28).

The 2022 ACC Men's Soccer Tournament will begin in November, with the first round (Nov. 2), quarterfinals (Nov. 6) and semifinals (Nov. 9) all played at select campus sites. The ACC Championship match will be held Nov. 13 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

The 2022 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship begins with the first round on Nov. 17 and culminates in the national title match set for Dec. 9.

NC State men's soccer games are free of charge. Gates open one hour prior to the start of each home match. Television designations for the 2022 season (and any changes to match times as a result of TV designations) will be announced at a later date.

Is Kiefer on the hot seat? Hasn't he been here a while with very little to show for it? Surprising because seemed like a strong hire at the time.

sports like this that are a net drain on the budget, my philosophy is, absent any suggestion of impropriety or mismanagement, why fire the coach unless you have some sort of plan for upgrading the program?

What's the general view on how good of a job the women's soccer coach is doing? Seems like he's doing pretty well...5 straight NCAA tournaments, and making the Sweet 16 in three of the last five years. They beat #4 Duke and #3 UNC last year, which was historic for the program.

I don't see a thread for the women's soccer season, but they have their first game on this coming Monday (Aug 8th) at 7pm at home (Dail soccer field/Track Complex), an exhibition against Ohio State. I'm planning on being there.

Despite the losses of key pieces from last year's squad, @PackMensSoccer is built to face the challenge of another year in the ACC.

From new faces on the coaching staff to a solid spring recruiting class, NC State is trending upwards.

"trending upwards" appears to be a bit of a "whistling past the graveyard" sort of statement. On the other hand, when you only won one match in ACC play, "trending up" really isn't that heavy a lift.

I think it would be cool in some of these Olympic sports to imitate the NFL, and base part of your schedule on where you placed the year before...i.e. Wes Moore's women getting slotted for more games against the other ACC elite programs, and programs like this one get a break by having games against all the other teams in the bottom quarter of the standings...it would certainly make building your program easier...I mean this poor coach has been basically mired at or near the bottom of the ACC for 3 or 4 years, but it can't help to constantly have your brains beat in by three or four of the six? Seven? ACC teams that made the Sweet 16 of the NCAAs last year...
A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

It was a memorable night for the NC State newcomers as Conor Kelly and Calem Tommy scored in their Wolfpack debuts to lead their team to a 2-0 season-opening win against visiting Loyola Maryland on Friday night.

Adding to the celebration, NC State's victory secured career win number 200 for head coach George Kiefer. He became the sixth active ACC coach to hit that milestone.

Kelly broke the stalemate in the 77th minute with a brilliant strike from 30 yards out. Pablo Pedregosa came in to take possession away from the Greyhounds and headed the ball over to Kelly at midfield. The graduate transfer needed only a little bit of space to laser his shot into the top of the net over the outstretched arms of Loyola Maryland keeper Konstantinos Parisis.

With the lead already intact, Tommy added to the Pack's tally in the 87th minute. The NC State rookie was assisted by fellow South African and junior transfer Junior Nare, who also secured a point in his first game in Wolfpack uniform.

Lucas Hatsios secured the clean sheet in his first appearance in goal for NC State, making four saves on the night. Two of those came on back-to-back shots by the Greyhounds in the 66th minute and prevented Loyola Maryland from striking first.

NC State is home again on Monday, Aug. 29 when it welcomes Wofford to Raleigh. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. from Dail Soccer Stadium, and the match will be streamed on ACCNX.

Pack playing well, up 2-0 in the late stages of the 1st. 2nd goal from Nare was pure class, bent uppers from about 20 out. Good defensive recovery prevented Wofford from levelling earlier, selling out to block an open net from about the penalty spot. Wofford has been pretty dangerous, but State has been even moreso, could easily have a third or fourth at this point.

NC State men's soccer's win was once again highlighted by midfielder Conor Kelly as he netted a hat trick in the Pack's 4-0 home victory over Wofford on Monday night.

Kelly scored in the 18th, 83rd and 84th minutes to lead the team and to put his goal total at four in just two games played with the Wolfpack. His hat trick was the first for a member of the program since at least the 2013 campaign.

Fellow transfer Junior Nare joined in on the scoring effort as he notched the first goal of his NC State career in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Win Ellis made the first start of his career, securing the blank sheet, and NC State's back line also contributed with multiple timely deflections to keep Wofford off the board.

Kelly broke open the scoring in the 18th minute, striking from the penalty mark on a shot that deflected off Wofford's keeper. The play was generated off a pair of assists as Will Buete fed a ball to Luke Hille who lifted the ball past a pair of Terrier defenders and through to Kelly.

Nare, who assisted on Calem Tommy's late score in his Wolfpack debut, opened his NC State scoring account with an incredible goal in the 36th minute. After Pablo Pedregosa rushed to the left sideline to keep a ball in bounds, Nare settled the ball on that same side of the field and worked his way across the top of the box before a beauty of a strike that finished in the upper right corner.

Kelly's curled his second goal of the night to the upper 90 off of feeds from Drew Lovelace and Cam Murray, and he rounded out the hat trick less than two minutes later by putting away a deflected shot by Luke Hille.

NC State hits the road for three-straight matches away from home, beginning with a Friday afternoon game against Mercer. The match will kick off at 4 p.m. from Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Va., as part of the Virginia Tech Tournament.

NC State men's soccer dominates Wofford, improves to 2-0

NC State men's soccer cruised past Wofford in a 4-0 dismantling of the Terriers on Monday, Aug. 29. The convincing victory was fueled by a hat trick from graduate midfielder Conor Kelly as well as a clean sheet for senior goalkeeper Windham Ellis in his first career start for the Pack.

New faces certainly stole the show for NC State in its second regular season game of the year. Kelly was the biggest standout, sending home three beautiful finishes on four shots throughout the evening. The first of his trifecta opened the scoring for the Wolfpack in the 18th minute of the contest when sophomore forward Luke Hille found Kelly breaking the back line on a beautiful through ball.

Wolfpack men's soccer (2-0-1) remained unbeaten on the season and came away with a point to start its first road trip of the season as it tied with Mercer (1-0-2) on Friday afternoon.

The teams squared off on Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Va., as part of the Virginia Tech Tournament.

It took Wolfpack graduate midfielder Conor Kelly only a matter of minutes to continue his scoring streak as he netted a goal just 1:19 into the outing. Kelly has now scored in each of the Pack's first three matches of the year, and his five goals on the season are tied for the national lead. He was assisted by Calem Tommy, who has tallied points in two of his first three matches as a member of the Wolfpack squad.

Mercer knotted the game up late in the first half, but the Wolfpack got the job done defensively in the second half. Sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Hatsios, making his second appearance of the season and of his career, made a total of five saves on the afternoon. Three of those came in the final eight minutes of the game to ensure a point for NC State.

The Pack's seven shots on the outing were distributed among five players, with two each from Kelly and Junior Nare. Both Nare and Kelly had shots on target in the second half that were saved by Mercer keeper Trevor McMullen.

NC State wraps up action in the Virginia Tech Tournament on Monday, Sept. 5 with a match against Radford that will take place at the Highlanders' home field. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

NC State men's soccer (2-0-1) steps into Atlantic Coast Conference action on Saturday night when it makes the trip to fourth-ranked Wake Forest (4-0-0). Kickoff from Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., is scheduled for 7 p.m. with live video coveraged provided by ACCNX.

SERIES HISTORY (NC State trails 11-31-7)
Saturday marks the 50th overall meeting between NC State and Wake Forest. The squads have played each other at least once every season since the 1980 campaign and also met in 1979 before Wake Forest was a varsity team.
The Demon Deacons remain unbeaten (15-0-5) in the last 20 meetings with the Wolfpack. NC State's last win over Wake Forest was a 2-1 victory in Raleigh on Oct. 30, 2005.
The Pack has not won a road match at Wake Forest since beating the Demon Deacons 1-0 on Oct. 10, 1993.
NC State's last two matches against Wake Forest have ended in draws. The teams most recently met in Raleigh on Sept. 24, 2021 for a match that ended in a 1-1 tie. NC State scored first in the 71st minute, but Wake Forest secured the equalizer just 39 seconds later. Neither team scored again in a game that extended through two overtime periods.
In the spring portion of the 2020-21 season, the Wolfpack and the Demon Deacons tied 0-0 in Winston-Salem. That decision halted a seven-match winning streak that Wake Forest had in the series as NC State earned a point against them for the first time since Oct. 9, 2015.
