The #5 NC State Wrestling team will open its 2021-22 season by sending 24 wrestlers to The Citadel Open on Saturday.

Action begins at 9 a.m. and brackets will be available on FloWrestling.

The Citadel Open is an open tournament, so those planning to redshirt this upcoming season will be able to compete unattached.

In the first tournament of the 2021-22 NC State Wrestling season, the Wolfpack claimed six of the 10 weight classes and had 15 top-three finishes over at The Citadel Open. NC State claimed the top three spots at both 197 pounds and heavyweight, and also the top two at 157 pounds.

125 pounds
Fr. Stevo Poulin captured a tournament title in his first tournament at NC State. Poulin went 3-0, outscoring his foes 31-4. He started with a 17-2 tech fall in his first bout, then followed up with a 6-1 win over Duke starter Agin. In the final, he won 8-1 over Air Force's Melotchik.

141 pounds
Fr. Ryan Jack moved up from his spot at 133 pounds last season, and in the first tournament at his new weight claimed the title. Jack was 4-0 with three bonus point wins and outscoring his foes 34-11 with a pin. He opened with a 13- major decision followed by a pin. In the semifinals it was a 11-7 decision, followed by a 10-2 major decision in the final.

157 pounds
In a battle of NC State freshmen in the final, AJ Kovacs scored a 9-8 decision over Ed Scott in the final. Kovacs won all five of his matches, outscoring his foes 55-11. He opened with back-to-back tech falls (17-1, 16-0) before a 3-1 win and 10-3 win in the semifinals.

184 pounds
Fr. Joey Milano was the second true freshman to also score a win in his first tournament at NC State. Milano was 3-0, outscoring his foes 26-11. After opening with a 12-4 major decision, he won 8-3 and then 6-4 in the finals over a pair of Air Force wrestlers.

197 pounds
In another Pack vs. Pack final, Fr. Isaac Trumble scored a late takedown and defeated teammate Jacob Ferreira in the finals, 4-2. Trumble was 4-0, outscoring his foes 18-8 with a pin.

285 pounds
R-Fr. Owen Trephan scored a pair of ranked wins and claimed the title at heavyweight. Trephan was 4-0, outscoring his foes 40-9. Trephan opened with a 22-3 tech fall and then a 3-1 OT win over Duke starter Niesenbaum. In the semifinals, he posted a 5-2 win over #30 McAleavey of The Citadel. In the final, with was a 10-3 win over teammate #18 Deonte Wilson.

The #5 NC State wrestling team opened its home season with a 34-6 win over visiting West Virginia. The Wolfpack (1-0) won eight of the 10 bouts, with six bonus point victories.

#9 Jakob Camacho started the action with a 14-4 major decision, after three third-period takedowns.

In his dual debut, #17 R-Fr. Kai Orine scored a first-period takedown and added in 2:41 of ride time for a 3-1 decision at 133 pounds. Fr. Ryan Jack followed suit, with an 8-7 decision at 141 pounds.

In his season debut, #3 Tariq Wilson also scored a major decision, 13-4 at his new weight of 149 pounds.

At 157 pounds, #31 Ed Scott put together six takedowns in his 22-8 major decision.

The Pack won each of the first five bouts, three by bonus points, and took a 18-0 lead halftime through the dual

In the first ranked bout of the dual, #16 Hall of WVU used a late takedown to secure a 6-3 win over #17 Thomas Bullard at 165 points.

The Pack went right back to bonus points, as #3 Hayden Hidlay scored two takedowns and two four-point near falls in each of the first two periods for a 19-3 tech fall at his new weight of 174 pounds.

Just 22 seconds into his season debut, #3 Trent Hidlay scored a first-period pin.

Another tech fall for the Pack at 197 pounds, as #19 Isaac Trumble racked up four near falls in the bout, and his final four-point turn in the third ended it early 17-0.

WVU capped the dual with a second ranked win, as #30 Wolfgram used two second-period takedowns to down #20 Owen Trephan 6-5.

Pretty good chance State pitches a shut out tomorrow night, but in the past, these are the type of matches that Pop likes to let some younger guys get mat time and rest the starters. We have more weight classes still up for grabs than we did the last two years, so it'll be interesting to see how the line up works out in these non-conference matches.

The sixth-ranked NC State wrestling team won all 10 bouts, seven went for bonus points, and downed visiting Gardner-Webb 45-(-1).

The dual started at 125 pounds, and the Pack win started with a pin. #5 Jakob Camacho collected a first-period pin 2:36 into his bout to give the Pack a quick 6-0 lead.

NC State then went back-to-back decision with #17 Kai Orine winning 11-5 at 133 pounds and #18 Ryan Jack took a 5-3 win.

The Pack recorded its second first-period pin in the first four bouts, as #3 Tariq Wilson scored the fall 1:36 into his bout at 149 pounds.

#28 Ed Scott collected a technical fall at 157 pounds, as he used a pair of four-point near falls in the first and a final takedown in the second ended it early, 19-4.

The Pack went into the break up 23-0.

R.J. Mosley didn't make weight at 165 pounds and Donald Cates was awarded the forfeit and the Pack six more points.

Alex Faison got the start at 174 pounds, and used three third-period takedowns and 2:41 of ride time for a 12-4 major decision.

#15 Isaac Trumble scored a takedown in all three periods and added 2:46 of ride time for a 9-0 major decision. After the bout, Gardner-Webb was deducted a team point for not shaking hands.
