NC State junior Maximilian Steinlechner shot a nine-under par 63 in the second round Monday afternoon to set a course record at the Eagle Point Golf Club where the Williams Cup Presented by Stitch Golf is being held.

The Pack is in second place as a team, four shots behind North Carolina.

Steinlechner, who started his round on the sixth hole, opened his second round by going birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie on the first four holes. After a par on the fifth hole of his round, he birdied the next two holes to go seven-under through seven holes. After two pars, the Austria native registered another birdie, and then had two more pars before running into his first trouble of the round, recording a bogey on the par-five 18th hole. He turned around birdie three of the next four holes to go to 10-under for the round before bogeying his final hole of the day to finish at nine-under 63 for the round.

The 63 is a career-low round for Steinlechner and tied for the third-best 18-hole score in program history. It's the lowest round by an NC State golfer since Benjamin Shipp shot a 63 in the second round of the 2019 Stitch Intercollegiate held at MacGregor Downs.

Steinlechner shot even-par 72 and is second place on the individual leaderboard, two shots behind the leader and three shots ahead of third place.

Spencer Oxendine was the only Pack golfer to go under-par in the first round, shooting a one-under par 71 in the opening 18. He followed up with a two-under par 70 in the second round and is in a tie for seventh place on the individual leaderboard.

Easton Paxton rebounded from a tough first round to shoot a five-under par 67 in the second round. After bogeying his second hole of the round, Paxton posted six birdies and no bogeys the rest of the way to tie for his low 18-hole score of the season. The Riverton, Wyo., native moved up 33 spots during the second round and is now in a tie for 20th place.

Ethan Choi is also tied for 20th place at two-over par. The sophomore shot even-par 72 in the first round and a 74 in the second.

Brandon Einstein rounds out the Pack lineup in 60th place.

Playing as an individual, Jake Herring shot a two-under par in the second round and is in a tie for 58th place.

The third and final round begins for NC State at 9:20 a.m. with the Pack's lineup going off from Hole No.1 and playing with first-place North Carolina and third-place Vanderbilt.
