Junior captain Sophie Hansson of the NC State women's swimming and diving team has been named one of four finalists for the 2021 Honda Sport Award for Swimming & Diving.

Hansson is joined by Sarah Bacon (Minnesota), Paige Madden (Virginia) and Maggie McNeil (Michigan) on the list. The winner of the sport award becomes. afinalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2021 Honda Cup, which will be presented on a telecast on CBS Sports Network on June 28 at 9 p.m.

A native of Helsingborg, Sweden, Hansson was the 2021 NCAA Champion in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events. She also added national titles in the 200 and 400-yard medley relays, with her performance in the 400 helping to set a new NCAA and US Open record. Hansson helped lead NC State to a runner-up finish at the 2021 NCAA Championship for the best national finish in program history. In her career, she is a 17-time All-American and a 10-time ACC Champion in addition to owning the individual conference records in both breaststroke events.

The swimming & diving finalists were selected by a panel of coaches and experts from the Collegiate Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The Honda Sport award winner for swimming & diving will be announced next week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.

The CWSA, celebrating its 45th anniversary year, has honored the nation's top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women's athletics programs.
