The NC State women's golf team teed off Tuesday and Wednesday in the Cavalier Match Play event at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, Va. After falling to host Virginia in the quarterfinals of the eight-team tournament on Tuesday, the Wolfpack split day two with a 3-2 loss to North Carolina and a 4-1 victory over Richmond.

In the quarterfinal match versus Virginia, NC State fell 5-0; however, Lea Klimentova had another solid performance as it took 21 holes for her to narrowly lose her matchup against Jennifer Cleary of Virginia.

Wednesday's action began with a rematch from the Big Four Challenge as NC State took a 3-2 loss to in-state foe, North Carolina, in the consolation semifinals. The Wolfpack was led by Monika Vicario who defeated Crista Izuzquiza, 5&3, and Natalie Ambruester who picked up a 20-hole win versus Nicole Adam.

Looking to bounce back from consecutive losses to Virginia and North Carolina, NC State took the course on Wednesday afternoon to face Richmond in its last match of the tournament. The Wolfpack came to play as it defeated the Spiders, 4-1. Klimentova, Vicario and Isabel Amezcua each picked up 5&4 victories, while Inja Fric picked up a 3&2 win.

For the tournament, NC State's efforts were highlighted by Vicario, who won two of her three matches.

NC State will return to action April 15-18 when it competes in the ACC Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. The first two days will consist of 54 holes of stroke play, and the top four teams from stroke play will advance to match play for the final two days to determine a champion.
