Icepack lead Providence 3-1 after the 1st. Riley Johnson and Colby Pederson with the early tallies, then Chris Solomon made it 3-1 in the final seconds after UP had cut the lead in half. Thought this game would be a barometer for how prepared the Pack were for this tourney. Providence is a very good team. So far, so good.

Icepack with a 4-2 lead after 2. Same story, Chris Solomon with a huge goal immediately after the Argos cut the lead in half on a power play. Special teams the only reason this game is close. Pack 0 for 3 on the power play today.

Final under 10 media timeout. Icepack clinging to a 4-3 lead.

Riley Johnson restores the 2 goal lead. Pack lead 5-3 with a huge penalty kill coming up with under 8 to go.

5-4 Icepack lead 3 minutes left.

Chris Solomon finds the empty net with 1:20 to go! He's got a hat trick and the Pack lead 6-4.

Big win to open pool play. The Pack beat a really good team today. Back at it tomorrow against Davenport, 2pm puck drop.

Standings after day 1

Only one lower seeded team won yesterday (Pool C - Williston over Marian). With the exception of Pool C, looks like it's coming down to the top 2 teams in each pool for the semifinal spots.

Starting lineup for game 2 vs. Davenport

Icepack lead 1-0 after 1 on a goal from Devin Halko. Pack getting most of the scoring chances, but will need to kill the final 3 minutes of a major penalty to start the 2nd.

Icepack lead 3-2 after 2. Goals from Ricky Frosch and Riley Johnson after Davenport had tied it twice. Simply put, the Pack have not been very good today. That said, we're in position to get the W, and that's what matters.

3-3, 9:32 to go. Icepack headed to the power play.

Chris Solomon cleans up a rebound to give the Icepack a 4-3 lead with 1:25 to go!

Colby Pederson finds the empty net in the closing seconds, and the Icepack escape with a 5-3 win. Not pretty, but it's 2 points. Pack will face top seed Mary tomorrow night with a chance to advance to the semifinals.

Icepack trail 2-0 after 1. We're getting beat by a better team, but Mary apparently gets free cheap shots too.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Mary assessed a pair of major penalties and a game misconduct in the period. Eric Todd and Matt Miller are both out of the game with injuries. On the bright side, Alex Robinson got us on the board.

Icepack fall 5-1 and finish 2-1 at Nationals. Ran into a buzzsaw tonight. Lots to be proud of this season; played by far our most challenging schedule ever and beat some phenomenal teams. The future is very bright for this program. Home opener next season will be 9/17 against UNC.
