The IcePack are the defending back-to-back ACCHL Tournament and ACCHL regular season champions. The ACCHL conference has 16 teams -- including UNC, Wake Forest, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Duke, and West Virginia. The IcePack currently have about a 7 or 8 game winning streak going against UNC.

The team is returning a ton of talent from last year, and IMO are the clear favorites to repeat as ACCHL regular season and tournament champions.

The season has been postponed until at least the spring semester (beginning of 2021). An updated schedule for their games in the spring will apparently be released soon.

The team will be playing the upcoming season in a brand new facility, with improved seating for fans, and an improved locker room for the team.

All home games will be at the Wake Competition Center, 7pm starts will be nice. My understanding is that there are currently no plans for a game at PNC Arena this season, but there's a chance they could make it work. Still a few open weekends; just assume there will be a game every Friday and Saturday in Jan/Feb, with a few Sunday games too. I know home games against New Hampshire were on the original schedule, but I doubt we'll play them this season, since they're not in our region. A road trip to Delaware was on the slate as well; not sure the status on that. No Russell Tourney this year. Regionals are scheduled for March 26-28, so presumably the ACCHL Tournament would be in early to mid March, but I've yet to hear any dates on that. The event will still be held in Winston-Salem. Nationals are in April in Boston.

So lots to look forward to.

Thanks for the info on the schedule. I missed that. Didn't see this mentioned on their twitter yet. Will be pretty bummed if they don't have at least one game versus unc-CHeat in PNC.

Both of our basketball teams are on pause, but we've got Icepack hockey this week. Spring semester opens with a 3 game home set against Dallas Baptist this weekend. Full schedule updated in previous post above.

Despite all the challenges this season, Coach Healy has managed to put together a terrific schedule. We'll play another 2 games against Liberty (#1 in southeast last season) and we'll get 4 games against Florida Gulf Coast (#2 in southeast last season). In a year where most of our normal opponents won't even have a season, we have an opportunity to further distance ourselves from the rest of the league and inch closer to competing for national titles. Regardless of whether or not postseason play pans out, this team will get better, and that's all we can hope for this year.

As of now, we don't expect to have fans at any of the home games; most, if not all home games, should be streamed on PackTV. Your best option to see the Icepack in person is Jan. 30 at Liberty. My understanding is that if 4 or more teams are available, the ACCHL tourney is a go in Winston-Salem (Mar. 19-21). Regionals are scheduled for the following weekend at a location TBD. Nationals will be in April, location also TBD. And of course, everything on the schedule if subject to change.

Icepack with a huge 5-3 win at home over Liberty! Chris Solomon leads the way with a hat trick and Riley Johnson tallies a pair. Rematch in Lynchburg tomorrow night.

Per Liberty's webiste:

"This weekend's series will be the last factored into the first 2020-21 ACHA Division II Top 20 national coaches poll on Jan. 31. That will be the first of five semi-weekly rankings this semester, with the top 16 teams in the final poll qualifying for the April 15-20 ACHA DII National Championships at a location to be determined."

I think we're positioned well to land in the top 16, but another win tonight would obviously go a long way towards solidifying our position. We'll also get four shots against Florida Gulf Coast, who finished #2 in the Southeast Region last season, and is the defneding D2 national champs. I'm actually not aware of any other top programs in the southeast who are playing games right now, so it may just be us, Liberty, FGCU representing the region for now.

Pack get a very late equalizer from Alex Robinson, fall in a shootout.

We played great tonight, outshot Liberty 9-1 in OT. Their goalie is on another level, and that was the difference. Liberty was gassed by the end of the game, but they had the edge in the shootout. Coach seemed pleased with the effort. ACHA does not recognize any result after the 5 minute overtime period, so this will go in the record books as a tie. Would've been nice to get the win, but this was a great showing these last 2 nights. We will be just fine.

Rankings will come out every 2 weeks through the end of March, with the top 16 qualifying for nationals in North Dakota in April.

More big games coming up with a home tilt against #8 East Texas Baptist tomorrow night, then a 2 game set at #7 Florida Gulf Coast next weekend.

NC State has a women's club ice hockey team as well, which just formed last year. They are playing VT tonight and currently up 6-0 after the first period.

They won 11-0. First victory in program history.

Only 4 regular season games left: 2 against Coastal (which we'll win) and 2 against Florida Gulf Coast. Would be surprised to see us move more than a spot or two in either direction the rest of the way.

no games vs unc-ch this season

The Icepack captured their 3rd consecutive and 5th overall ACCHL title Sunday with an 8-3 win over Virginia Tech. Didn't get the full weekend event this year, but won't complain about another banner.

The Pack are now 10-6-1 on the season, and are currently ranked #7 in the nation. We'll see one more round of rankings, which will determine the 16 teams that head to nationals in North Dakota (April 15-20).
