Unlike any recruiting class before, this group for women's @PackXC will put NC State in the running for any meet or championship they attend. Whether it is this fall or at some later date, this team will definitely be one to keep an eye out for.

The NC State men's and women's cross country teams will begin 2020 action Friday, Sept. 25 in Blacksburg, Va., at a tri-meet with Virginia Tech and Duke. Additional competitions will be announced at a later date. No spectators, including parents, will be permitted at the meet.

NC State will field up to 16 men's runners and up to 16 women's runners, and unattached and non-team entries will not be allowed at the meet.

The NC State cross country programs began their seasons with wins on Friday, competing at the Virginia Tech Invitational against Virginia Tech and Duke.

WOMEN'S 6K RECAP:
The Wolfpack took the top five spots in the 6K and seven of the top 10. Wofford transfer Hannah Steelman made her debut for NC State at the tri-meet, taking the individual title with a 20:36.2.

Redshirt senior Dominique Clairmonte finished in second place (20:43.6), followed by sophomore Kelsey Chmiel (third, 20:52.3), redshirt junior Nevada Mareno (fourth, 20:58.3) and junior Savannah Shaw (fifth, 21:01.1).

Rounding out finishes in the top 10 was redshirt sophomore Ashley Holt (seventh, 21:04.9) and sophomore Samantha Bush (10th, 21:31.0).

Redshirt sophomore Mariah Howlett tabbed a 13th-place finish with a time of 21:52.5, and redshirt senior Anna Vess posted a 22:02.8 to finish 17th. Redshirt sophomore Sarah LaTour rounded out the Wolfpack returners (22:18.7).

True freshman Claire Walters (21:51.7) posted a 12th-place finish, and fellow true freshmen Jenna Schulz (22:00.9), Gionna Quarzo (22:26.6) and Alyssa Hendrix (23:00.0) each ran in their first collegiate meet. Redshirt freshmen Lulu Black (22:10.6) and Shannon Sefton (22:39.7) both suited up for NC State for the first time as well.

MEN'S 8K RECAP:
Four of the top five individual finishers were members of the Pack, led by redshirt senior Joe Bistritz claiming the individual title (24:37.3). Graduate student JP Flavin took second (24:39.5) and was followed by junior Ian Shanklin (third, 24:41.9).

Redshirt sophomore Nate Kawalec tabbed a fifth-place finish with a time of 25:02.7 while true freshman Ian Harrison made his debut for NC State, running a 25:08.1 for eighth place.

Fellow true freshmen Brett Gardner additionally ran for the Wolfpack for the first time, finishing in 10th (25:13.7) while Kevin Antczak posted a 25:48.5.

Redshirt freshman Ben Verchick (25:49.0), sophomore Peyton Barish (26:19.9), true freshman JJ Malach (26:55.9) and true freshman Jake Toomey (27:11.0) rounded out the Wolfpack men.

The Wolfpack will host a meet at the WakeMed Cross Country Course in Cary, N.C., on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Each squad will be able to field up to 16 men's runners and 16 women's runners. There will be no unattached or non-team entries at the Wolfpack Invite.

The NC State women's cross country team posted its second win of the season on Wednesday, claiming the 5K team title behind an individual title win by redshirt senior Dominique Clairmonte. The men's squad recorded a second-place finish in the 8K at the meet (31 points).

The Wolfpack women collected 14 points and were followed in the standings by North Carolina in second place and Virginia in third. Virginia picked up a team win on the men's side with North Carolina taking third and Duke finishing fourth.

WOMEN'S 5K RECAP:
NC State took six of the top 10 spots at the Wolfpack Invite, with Clairmonte leading the way with a time of 16:56.4. Senior Hannah Steelman posted a second-place finish (17:03.1), and sophomore Sam Bush rounded out NC State's finishers in the top five in fourth place (17:36.5).

Redshirt sophomore Mariah Howlett (17:43.7), sophomore Kelsey Chmiel (17:45.3) and freshman Jenna Schulz (17:46.9) finished in eighth, ninth and tenth places, respectively. Junior Savannah Shaw finished in 11th, posting a time of 17:51.9.

Also representing the Wolfpack at the meet were freshman Gionna Quarzo (18:00.0), redshirt sophomore Sarah LaTour (18:10.4), redshirt freshman Lulu Black (18:17.2), freshman Claire Walters (18:27.3), freshman Alyssa Hendrix (18:48.3), redshirt freshman Shannon Sefton (18:49.1), redshirt senior Anna Vess (19:05.1), and senior Ryen Frazier (19:15.0).

MEN'S 8K RECAP:
Redshirt senior JP Flavin was the top finisher for NC State at the Wolfpack Invite, claiming second place (23:35.0). He was followed by third-place finisher redshirt senior Joe Bistritz (23:45.7) and senior Ian Shanklin, who earned fourth place with a time of 23:46.0.

Redshirt sophomore Nate Kawalec rounded out the Wolfpack's top-10 finishers, running a 24:03.6 to take eigth place. Freshman Brett Gardner additionally scored for NC State with a 14th-place finish (24:22.1).

Freshman Kevin Antzcak posted a time of 24:23.1, and redshirt senior Gavin Gaynor laced up for the first time this season, running a 24:31.8.

Freshman JJ Malach (24:32.1), redshirt sophomore Ares Epps (24:38.7), redshirt freshman Ben Verchick (24:40.1), redshirt sophomore Grant Northcutt (25:17.3), redshirt sophomore Peyton Barish (25:17.5), freshman Jake Toomey (25:28.9) and redshirt senior Tim Bason (26:02.9) all represented the Wolfpack as well.

The NC State men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Kernersville, N.C., Friday, Oct.16 to compete against North Carolina and Wake Forest.

Each team will be allowed up to 16 entries.

LAST TIME OUT:
Dominique Clairmonte's first-place time of 16:56.4 at the Wolfpack Invite earned her recognition as the USTFCCCA National Women's Athlete of the Week on Oct. 13 as well as ACC Women's Performer of the Week on Oct. 14. Clairmonte completed the race with a solid lead, crossing the finish line about seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and more than 30 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher.

Senior Hannah Steelman posted another impressive finish at the meet, claiming second place (17:03.1). The Wolfpack tabbed six of the top-10 spots at the meet and three of the top five. NC State took home the team title for the second consecutive meet.

The Wolfpack men took second at the Wolfpack Invite, with redshirt senior JP Flavin taking second (23:35.0), redshirt senior Joe Bistritz finishing third (23:45.7) and senior Ian Shanklin placing fourth (23:46.0). NC State took four of the top-10 spots.

The Wolfpack will make the short trip to Cary, N.C., for the ACC Cross Country Championship Friday, Oct. 30.

The NC State cross country teams concluded regular-season action on Friday in Kernersville, N.C., with a meet against Wake Forest and North Carolina. The Wolfpack women tabbed a second-place finish (51 points) while the men took third place (72 points).

WOMEN'S 6K RECAP:
Redshirt sophomore Sarah LaTour posted the highest finish for NC State, taking ninth place with a time of 21:40.07. She was followed by freshmen Jenna Schulz in 10th place (21:43.17) and Gionna Quarzo in 11th place (21:48.21). Redshirt freshman Lulu Black was the fourth finisher for the Wolfpack in 12th place, running a 21:53.67.

Rounding out the scoring for the Wolfpack was freshman Claire Walters who claimed 14th place (22:07.1). Redshirt freshman Shannon Sefton (22:16.73), redshirt senior Anna Vess (22:35.98), freshman Alyssa Hendrix (22:43.8) and graduate student Ryen Frazier (23:02.85) additionally represented NC State at the meet.

MEN'S 8K RECAP:
Redshirt freshman Ben Verchick tabbed a top-10 finish for the Wolfpack, taking seventh place (24:55.68). NC State's next finisher was freshman Dan McGoey, who took 16th place with a time of 25:41.56.

Redshirt sophomore Grant Northcutt (25:46.43), redshirt sophomore Peyton Barish (25:50.03) and freshman JJ Malach (25:59.99) all scored for NC State at the meet as well.

Redshirt senior Tim Bason ran a time of 26:33.36 and freshman Jake Toomey ran a 27:03.71.
