The Wolfpack opened action at the 2021 ACC Championships on Wednesday evening by bettering the program records in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay. NC State's women finished second in both of those races.

Katharine Berkoff (23.37), Sophie Hansson (26.31), Sirena Rowe (23.02) and Kylee Alons (20.82) teamed up for a 1:33.52 200-yard medley relay time that was under the previous meet and ACC record. Their mark was the third-fastest swim in NCAA history, and they finished just behind Virginia's relay crew, which set a new NCAA and American record with the winning time of 1:32.93.

The Pack followed up with another No. 2 finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a final time of 6:58.48. The mark was just the third sub-seven minute time in the event in program history and lowered the previous school record of 6:59.73.

In that event, senior Julia Poole (1:44.82) opened with the fastest 200-yard freestyle time of her career, with Alons (1:44.25), Berkoff (1:43.72) and Kate Moore (1:45.69) following her to round out the race.

Both relay times were good for NCAA A cuts.

NC State's divers also opened competition at the meet, with both the women and men in action. Sophomore Helene Synnott reached the first ACC Championships final of her career on the three-meter springboard. She took seventh place with a score of 294.70 to score points for the Wolfpack women.

NC State will continue action at the ACC Championships on Thursday, with prelims scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., diving finals at 2:30 p.m. and swimming finals at 7 p.m. The entire day of action can be streamed live on ACCNX.

The Wolfpack women's swimming and diving team continued to shine at the 2021 ACC Championships, with Friday's action at the meet highlighted by a pair of record-breaking wins from Sophie Hansson and Katharine Berkoff.

The Pack remains in second place as it goes into the last seven events of the women's conference championship meet on Saturday. NC State has now won a total of three events on the weekend and picked up a total of 13 podium finishes through three days of action in Greensboro. The team has 868 team points behind Virginia's 1,025 points.

100 BREASTSTROKE:
Hansson continued to show off her dominance in the 100-yard breaststroke as she took home her third-straight conference crown in the event. Virginia's Alex Wenger broke Hansson's conference record from 2020 in the morning prelims, putting Hansson as the two seed headed into the A final.

The junior captain drew even with Wenger at the final turn of the championship race and managed to surge past her at the finish. Hansson's winning time of 57.45 took back her conference record as she out-touched Wenger by .15 seconds. She became just the third swimmer in program history and the first since the mid-1980s (Tricia Butcher) to win an ACC individual title in the same event three seasons in a row.

Andrea Podmanikova joined her on the podium with a third-place finish. Her 58.10 mark took over the spot at No. 2 in the program record books and was also an NCAA A cut. Olivia Calegan rounded out the Pack's attack in the A final with a 59.17 for seventh place.

NC State has now won the 100-yard backstroke every season since 2017.

Danika Huizinga also qualified for the A final. After cracking the NC State top 10 with a 52.90 in the prelims, she went 52.94 in the finals for seventh.

B finalist: Katey Lewicki (53.34, 13th)

100 BUTTERFLY:
Alons picked up her second individual podium finish of the meet and took third place in the 100-yard butterfly.
